Main Repairmen Ahoy

LEARNING TO SEW (finished version) I added the big needles on the ropes and put in touches of embroidery on each of the figures. Done!

And below, my ode to losing my marbles, the cover and page 2-3

1. Just got a call from #1 son who has been working on a project all week at the film editors in the city and the client has decided not to go with the campaign, fortunately it wasn't his plan so he isn't really invested, but he has been at it for weeks now, hired film crews and actors and editing company and all. I guess his agency likes the work he did well enough to put it inot their portfolio so that's good, but he is bummed.

2. And then there is the Newlywed Couple- the house inspector is coming tomorrow, the offer has been accepted and now the other real estate person is throwing roadblocks at them- seems that the people who are currently living in the house have a lease until June. Sounds like a real ball o red tape and they probably won't get this place. We'll see.

3. And the killer for me today was that the maintainence man for the apartmant complex next door caught me cutting through his parkling lot with Molly (I do it probably four times a day because it's a short cut) and threw a fit that it is 'private property' and we will ruin his lawn (Molly pees on asphalt). He YELLED at me, I was shocked. So now I have to find a new route for the many short walks every day. Screw him and the pickup he rode in on...

But tomorrow is the weekend, supposed to rain both days and tomorrow night we are going to an outdoor Indian engagement party- the son of some of our Indian friends, old clients of TY's, is marrying a 'Carla Santiago'- could be a hell of an amazing cultural exchange at the least. I'll let ya know. Sunday we have the 40-day mass for TY's mom, then a lunch afterwards. i scanned and printed all these pictures of her and her sisters to give to everyone there- at least until I ran out of photo paper. It's killin' me to have to give pictures to the bad SIL, but I will do it and smile (really it's a gritting-my-teeth thing but maybe it will pass). Nuthing else new. I am making some l;ittle books for fun, nothing to write home about. Also I took the scissors to my mothers pride and joy mink jacket- about a size 2 so I couldn't even get my fat arm into it. I am thinking I will make a scarf out of it, line it with some nice fabric and wear it once in awhile. It's not a very flattering color- kinds greyish blond so it it doesn't work I will simply throw it away- it's about 35 years old I think, sorta dried out,and I cannot stand those damn mink teddybears.

Crate Lactate Birthday

Molly and the Saks catalog

First off, I got a new Palm and it does more and is prettier than the old one. Love it. Still don't have a birthday present from the kids and I am itching to make lables. Bet I NEVER get one. Also, went to the Town Vet and Molly got a new rabies booster so she is all set. Her leg was fine in two days and she's tearing the house up again.

Finished another tiangle (or as they call them, 'Triangels') on the sweater back but I can't work with the puppy around, she steals the yarn, runs with the needles, flying leaps into my lap and is a general PITA.

I've been asked to be a juror for the Batik show coming to the NEQM, maybe I am not completely gone and forgotten? Also, I need to get new postcards made and have been on line all morning with Modern Postcard trying to figure out what I need to do- seems I need TIFF images rather than my beloved jpegs so I have to decide what I want to look at for years to come and get them printed.

Molly's trainer came the other day and has her on a 'schedule'. That's a laugh. We are 'socializing' her. We went to the pet store, todsay we went to a kids soccer game, and also later to the Public Garden. But she is out of our bed and into the crate at nights now and it means we can sleep in till 6:30 or even 7 if we don't get up to pee.

Basically I don't have much to say except that being a juror for the batik show means I don't have to actually MAKE a quilt from batik like I was planning to do, and I don't have any collages in progress because I can't bear to cut inot the indigo marbelized paper just yet, god it's beautiful. So, instead I will just change the image of 'Learning to Sew' that I already posted because I added some big needles and more embroidery. I'm outta here...

Ebony Sherwood Prophetic

Almost hate to get up in the morning to face what today's disaster might be. Oh, I know, today is the hurricane! Supposed to be 20" of rain and it's hitting land just north of Jupiter, fortunately (?) the winds are down to 105 but it's so slow moving that there will be lots of damage as it swirls around and around. Worry worry worry. 20" of rain just can't be absorbed so I am thinking New Carpet as my pool overflows into the house. Going to be a major mess down there and even if it's only minor in my place it will be impossible to get help to fix things because so many folks will be so much worse. TV tuned permanently to the weather channel. OK, that's the first of today's worries.

Yesterday was devoted to Molly, feral cat capture, rabies and tetanus shots, anti-inflamatories-in-peanut-butter and dealing with animal control. It was a full day of phone calls and vet office visits and I still have to see the town vet next week to be cleared or quarantined. She is better today, only limping, her leg isn't collapsing under her and she is back to being glued to my ankles wherever I go. The story is this: I was out doing the long walk with Molly and we take a set of steps from one road down to a lower road (hilly area) We were walking along the sidewalk which is right under windows of a house with big bushes and all of a sudden a cat comes hissing and screeching out and attacks Molly. Then another one leaps out of the bushes and Molly is crying and screaming and I am kicking at the cats and trying to pull them off of Molly but they keep leaping on her and screeching. She was terrified (OK, I was even more terrified!) but scooped her up and the damn cats kept coming at ME then- you shoulda seen me run down those steps. When I get home, after I cleaned my huge scratches and checked over Molly, I opened the local newspaper and the lead story is about the feral cats in the town- that had to be what these were, small and vicious and all sort of scraped and mangled up. Cat Terrorists.

Poor Molly is limping tonight and does NOT want to go outside. I suppose we both should get tetnus shots (do dogs get tetnus?) because I have some nasty scratches on my leg, luckily I was wearing jeans and heavy sneakers so the damn things didn't have much access to skin except my ankles. Adventures in the big city.

Last night I found out that my kid's birthday present to me was supposedly delivered on August 23rd by UPS. I checked the tracking number because I told Mandy I hadn't received it yet and Office Depot had charged her credit card. UPS claims it was left at my front door. So, Office Depot won't take responsibility, and UPS won't take responsibility, and now Mandy wants me to deal with it- she is 'too busy' with school work. So much for a Happy Sixtieth- NO present now, just hassle. Told her to put Jamie on the case so we'll see.

Next problem out of my control- when I was in Buffalo two trips ago I found all my brothers photographs as well as lots of slides and family stuff I didn't even know existed, got excited and threw it all into a box to bring back to Boston to go through (this was the trip I flew in for the estate sale so the box was stuck in a basement closet where it would be safe from buyers and I could get it when I returned in a car.) Well, last trip there I FORGOT it, just didn't get into the basement closet because Mandy and I were so busy taking the tables and getting that stuff crammed into the car with the dog, and then beating feet out of town. So after I realized it, I call my father who was having a ''confused' day and realize he can't help me, can't even understand what I am talking about. I called the estate woman but she said she didn't see any box but maybe nosy neighbor took them, I called the nosy neighbor and he said he didn't have them. So the closing on the house was yesterday and I have no idea where the photos went, who threw them away, etc, and I am sick over it.

So far I have not entered my 60's very happily. And my morning horoscope tells me that today I can even get into trouble staying home.

Remember I said I was gonna get in trouble even staying home? Went to hem a pair of pants today and my fooking machine won't work. Worked yesterday. The light is on, the bobbin winds, but the footpedal won't make it go. Hope it's just the footpedal, but it means TEN DAYS (best case scenario) without a machine. I may diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeee.

And my Palm Pilot won't sync either, have reloaded the software, have fiddled and tweaked, still won't work. Want a new one anyway, this was the first one that came out so I've been shopping on-line but I do not want (read CAN'T) pay $400.
I'm scared to open the refrigerator.

SIT MOLLY, in progress

I just can't believe it's September already. The closing on my dad's house is Friday and I'll breathe a sigh of relief at that milestone. I real;ized yesterday that I had left the box of photos in the closet in the basement so called to see if I could track them down before someone dumped them. Apparently Bob-the-Neighbor has them so I will call him today, hope he can just save the box for me because there are alot of family pictures that I don't remember, especially Gary. One in particular seems to be taken by a professional photographer at a dance or party at his fraternity- they are all dressed in camouflage and have fake blood- too much of a precursor to a few months later. Hope I can find Bob's number...

Am trying to do embroidery on the 'Learning to Sew' piece but I have to push each needle through the canvas and layers with a straight edge and then grab it with pliars from behind. Makes for slow going- here it is before the embroidery and I'll show it again afterwards.
