Uncommon Exposures: Photography in Craft Based Media
October 8, 2016 - January 22, 2017

Contemporary craft artists are equipped with an ever-growing availability of materials and technological resources, often resulting in mixed-media practices of both the two and three dimensional variety. Accordingly, Uncommon Exposures showcases how seemingly opposing practices, craft and photography, are brought together by artists through clay, fiber, jewelry, and other traditional craft-based media. In this exhibition, the provocative capabilities of both film and digital photography achieve a balance with the remarkable work of the handmade. Participating artists include Alice Benvie Gebhart, Sandra Donabed, Ashley Gilreath, Vicki Jensen, Kyle Meyer, Megumi Naitoh, Peter Olson, Wen Redmond, Chelsea Revelle, Stephen Sheffield, Jennifer Walstead, Pao Fei Yang, and Melissa Zexter.
Opening Reception: Sunday, November 6, 2:00 – 5:00 pm, This is a reception for both “Uncommon Exposures” and the Cary Wolinsky exhibition Fiber of Life. This exhibition is sponsored by Panopticon

                                               Art as Quilt
Transitions in contemporary textile media
Exhibit Concept:
Art as Quilt is a juried exhibition of contemporary textile media that explores the subject of art as quilt. The word quilt implies a traditional 3 layered stitched approach but artists are encouraged to explore new and unique ways to push beyond these boundaries through the use of techniques and materials. This exhibit will consist of works that represent unexpected approaches and interpretations of the theme and help illustrate the diversity of styles, techniques and materials being used by the Studio Art Quilt Associates members.

SAQA members living in the Southeast were invited to show us what makes life in this part of the country special for you. Is it the history, tradition, or climate? Maybe it’s the demographics, food, or industries. Or is it something else? Find that special something that makes living in the Southeast unique for you and celebrate it in an art quilt.
