Clean on Peninsula Seashore

Oh oh- Seems like Rita has worked herself up to a Category 5. Things are not good down there on the gulf, looks like we sit up with the Weather Channel again tonight. I guess I am worrying most about all those folks who were already evaculated to Texas after Katrina and now are going through it all over again.

On a lighter note, we had Crit Group last night and Judy offered some of Fred's summer production to us- I am afraid I knocked over some furniture and a few women to grab this one, but it was the only one without blue so it had 'take this one, Sandy!' written on the front. Like in Venice, it's allegorical- EVERYTHING is allegorical. Anyway, I liked the pot a lot in the dark last night but today with the sun on it it's very beautiful- the glaze is many shades of off white and is crackly and drippy so it reflects light in interesting ways. Thanks, Fred!

Spent some more time cleaning out drawers today. I think I will just put it all in a bag and haul it across the street for trash pick-up because that rarely happens before one of the trash pickers gets at it- maybe they will get something they can use. I am culling out anyting that smacks of country or Victorian, or in fact, 'old'. Today I threw out some old duck book of my dad's- the binding had come undone and the prints were all in bad shape from 1948 and *I*just*don't*give*a*fig*about*ducks anyway. It was in the trash in my studio wastebasket. Well, later, I went through the lobby to get the mail and there was the friggin' book! I think the cleaning gal wanted it, though I can't imagine why. I'll call her and save it for her- or better yet, I won't call, and just heave it back into the wastebasket so she can have a deja vu moment.

Both of them want to go visit Molly while she's in the Big House (the boarding kennel). They told me to clear their names as visitors and so maybe they can take her out for a walk. Won't that be weird for me to be watching them on the kennel web cam from Venice? I didn't tell them that part.

But, back to crit group: Carol had been to Taiwan over the summer teaching indigo at a seminar, Linda had two nice small embroideries of clouds done in black and white (one was a scan of the completed one being framed), Barb still had the same tree- but that's how she works, slowly and deliberately. Nancy had some very interesting gelatin prints from a Haystack workshop that she had made small books from- quite beautiful, plus she had a 40th surprise anniversary party and her daughter got married last week in Mendocino and she made all the wedding gear! And oh yeah, she also has 12 blocks made for an election quilt. Sylvia had been doing paper cutting and had two xeroxes of ones she has given as presents. Exquisite things, she used oragami papers and magazine illustrations so they had pattern as well. And of course Judy had 120 more of her rust and rock series.

I brought all 5 quilts from the Circles series, the 3 collages, the tiny Guinea Pigs, and the baby quilt. I wasn't sure about the baby quilt, some liked it OK, others weren't blown off the couch over it (like me), but I think at this point I will finish it up and get it on it's way. Not a single comment about the "G"s... maybe they were still talking about other things, I don't know. Whatever is going on, I feel somewhat minimized lately.

Oh, maybe it's my work? Hmmm
