Allusive Obduracy

Hey kids, it's New Links Sunday!

All week long I have been collecting links and had a nice long list for today but somehow Blogger found me to be an unknown quantity and woudn't post anything older than yesterday. ("yesterday....all my trouble seemed so far awayyyyy...")

First, from Victoria: I don't know where she finds these but this one had me laughing so hard at the ingredients and wine suggestions that I woke the dog. Then, one of my friends opined that it all looked like Buffalo food. Unfortunately she's a little too close to the truth. The Company Cookbook These dishes look like things I ate for years as 'company fare'- in fact I went through my mom's recipe collection when she died and I betcha she had most of these on file. I have to admit I tossed it all- there was no particular one dish that I needed her recipes for, and it was like an anthropological dig seeing the different food eras covered. Now I still get similar things in the restaurants around Lazarus' assisted living place. So, if you think this is unappetizing in photos, imagine eating it alone with a paperback. In the Buffalo suburbs. In the snow.

Oh, another story- I leave Molly in the car outside these restaurants (weather permitting) and always try to get a seat where I can keep an eye on the car. It never fails that as soon as I sit down the car starts it's emergency flashers. I have since written to BMW to fix the design flaw of having the hazard light switch on the console- Molly dances on it trying to see me and sets up a situation- everyone thinks she needs rescuing.

Art New England - December/January has a nice review of the Trashformations show, talk about a day late and a dollar short. I know that the Fuller didn't need another review because it was the biggest draw they ever had, but still, you would think that Art New England could have gotten this article in before the show closed and moved on. Or at the very least included the traveling schedule. That said, this is my favorite magazine for local stuff and it just keeps getting better under the new owners. (OK, so I knew her mother back when she was a quilter!)

And finally, Freeform Knitting and Crochet , an Australian woman's site that shows some very innovative techniques for not following patterns. I think I need one of her books. I love what the Australians are doing with fiber art- they always seems to be a foot ahead. Trudy Billingsley used to live near me- I actually met her at a week long get-away on Nantucket held at Clair Murray's B&B by Virginia Avery. (Talk about dropping names!) Anyway, Trudy came all the way from Australia to attend, went back home and within a short time her husband was transferred to the Boston area where we continued the friendship. She sure was talented and I understand that she is doing more wearables and experimental things now than quilts, but we have lost touch.

And someone found the
Rope Light Alligator
I showed you yesterday (now you know they're real) and the exciting thing is that it's GREEN.
I really really need one of these.

And from Linda, my hyper-organized friend at home, FIber Art Links, lots of them!

And finally, because I was having a nostalgic time over purses made with folded cigarette wrappers, Dusty on QA found Art for Housewives and Gumwrapper Chains. Meanwhile I have found the finished purses made in Africa and sold at Gallery 5 here in Tequesta. I think I will not be buying one, but it's funny how a smoking housewife's passtime has run full circle. A few years back I saw some 'vintage' cigarette bags in an antique mall- I should have gotten it there!

(Now it looks as thought they're here to stay, Oh, I believe in yesterday.)
