Directory Collapse

Today I sorted through the nightstand where I keep books-I-must-read. There were way too many, a bunch of trades from my crit group, another pile of my favorite food writing that I share with Sylvia, another pile of creativity books, and too many magazines to carry. I have culled out those that belong to other people and will haul them back today, then I made a pile for Mandy but I don't think she will get them this trip unless she stops into my condo for something else. I have the magazines all spread out ready to flip through one last time, and then I have rearranged what remains. This all started because I can't find my copy of 'Wyoming Stories', by my favorite author Annie Proulx. I know I lent it to my mom but since she died 4 years ago it's a little hard to ask her- I must have lent it out to someone else- nuts.

Another adventure in absurdity: I opened the door today and there was a delivery box- now everyone knows I am gone for the winter and the mail is being forwarded but there it was anyway. So I opened it up and in it were a pair of Tod heels from Saks with a sticker price on the bottom of $478.00. Gee, they sure don't look like $478 shoes to me- not that I am a judge. Can't say as I liked the style much, too business-like and certainly not something I could walk across the room in because of the heel height AND the little fact that they are two sizes too small. On the packing slip they were ordered from Saks on a day I happened to be in Saks buying shoes, though not for that much money. Probably they had both credit cards back at the sales desk and got them mixed up. Anyway, now I am stuck figuring out how and when to get these mailed back to Saks and then waiting for a credit. It's one of those 'gifts of grief' because it forces the recipient to DO something. And that, dear souls, is the problem with gift cards too. Aaurghhh.

I am schlepping them back to Palm Beach and will simply HAVE to make a trip to Saks to turn them in- all this is easier than taking the bus into the Boston Saks. What a pain.
