Here is the set of little plates I finished yesterday- I think they are about 6" glass plates, probably can be used for appetizers or soap or rings by the sink, I dunno. Hey, maybe they are simply decorative!
The deal is that they are cellular photos of cross-sections of different plants and trees, then printed on the ole ink-jet (now you know why I was hysterical when it quilt on me the other day). When I blew the photos up I was amazed at how they looked like knitted patterns, lacy and irregular, and I knew I had to do something that would show them off, so I decided to dredge up the old decoupage skills- this blog is supposed to be fiber art oriented so the fact that these are wood patterns AND it looks like knitting takes it beyond the glass/paper/glue/paint that it really is!
And for the close-up shots:

I'll echo Caitlin's WOW! These are beautiful!
Gosh, these are beautiful. Decoupage, eh? Who knew? And I really think paper is fiber, isn't it?
OMG I just love these little bowls, and not only because in many ways the finished pieces display the kinds of patterns I am experimenting with using metallic waxed leather applied to fabric.... is leather fibre? I don't care anyway, it has me in its thrall. cheers - Alison
