DESIGNER ABORIGINALS
Amazing
work by an Australian aboriginal woman painter. If you don't know what to buy me for my birthday, here it is. This was sent by a woman in Australia because of a discussion about appropriating symbolism from indiginous cultures, and a quest for what exactly our 'white girl' symbols might be since we are no longer on ancestral lands or even have a direct lineage any longer. Is it the land or the culture that gives you a connection? Interesting to think about.
Am still on antibiotics but feel well enough now to forget to take them.
Last night we met my second cousin in the South End and had a fabulous time at Aquitaine, one of my favorite comfortable restaurants anyway. We haven't seen a whole lot of my cousin even though we are in touch occasionally, but we had one of those evenings when everyone was talking constantly. Its great to hear new people's stories. Unfortunately it underlined a simple fact for me that I am not in my correct life. I need to be around interesting people, I need to have a walking neighborhood, and I need the stimulation of artists and writers and galleries and coffee shops. Is it too late? Yeah, probably. I need to get out of my little hampster wheel more.
