So, am I now a Columnist

So I am reading the lesser sections of the Globe today, got into the Metro-West section in fact- mostly stuff about towns west of Boston and their movie theater offerings and sports teams but there is one article titled, "Spears Wins on Election Night TV" with a picture of Brittany and K-Fed and yakkedy yak about how their break-up got more attention on Fox than election day. So I am reading reading reading and there it is:

"In Newton, that Fox teaser also weighed heavily on the mind of the Waiting for the Muse blog (sandeedee.blogspot.com).
"Please don't contact me today, " blogger Sandy wrote in a post the day after Election Day. "I am headed off to Brit and K-Fed's to see if I can help them through their problems. I am bringing cheeze whiz [sic], sure that will make them see the light."

(BTW, the [sic] part opf cheeze whiz was intentional). I DO know how to spell cheese. So folks, I have made the Boston Globe for my political commentary, who woulda thought? Too funny. Can't believe I stumbled on it. Can't believe THEY stumbled on it.

Oh, please please, if you happen by here as the result of the Globe mention, please please leave a note! It's a little test to see if anyone else reads that deep into the paper, or if I have such a boring life that I am the Lone Ranger on page 15, Globe West! And comment about the weather or 'them Sox' or whatever because I really do not give a flying fig about Brit or K-Fed, or in fact politics!

I would also like you all to know that the Globe didn't print anything about my show- but THIS is newsworthy. Maybe I will stop sewing.

Above postcard lifted from Post Secret, a place to spend lots of voyeur time.

Got invited to go to Brandeis today to see the exhibit at the Rose Art Museum, a site specific room of painted panels called 'Hope Springs Eternal' done by Clare Rojas. You needn't be in a hurry to get there, it's here until April Fool's Day. I was drawn in by the mention of paintings, quiltings, and painted patchwork, but those things were at a minimum and the whole show seemed to be about penises with the central larger than life paper mache figure plumbed to pee off the balcony into the central water pond a floor below.

I seem to have some difficulty with most of the exhibits I have visited at the Rose, but keep trying. Also there was a room of video installations where one piece was simply mezmerizing. It was a still photo of a massive library entrance by John Cambell (his name wasn't included on the descriptive sheet so I know nothng about him). The sepia photo was lit from behind and you would watch shadows of people and flocks of birds moving up and down the steps. It was very hard to see how it was working, as it wasn't projected, but there were a series of tiny lights behind the photo that dimmed and lit up that made the shadows move. I would take this piece in a New York minute, it was so lovely and contemplative.

And finally, I made the Cranberry Orange Compote yesterday and still have a bit left for Thanksgiving in spite of tasting it continually. I apparently filled up on the liverwurst-on-rye for breakfast and haven't gotten to the tub of cranberries yet.

Cranberry Orange Compote

1 bag fresh cranberries
zest of 1 orange
1/2 c. orange juice
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. chopped crystallized ginger
1/2 c. toasted pine nuts (or toasted slivered almonds)

Stick it all, except the nuts, in a pot and bring to a boil, lower heat to a simmer and cook 10 minutes until all the cranberries pop. Skim off the foam and cool completely before adding the nuts. Chill. Lasts for a very long time and is great sandwiches made of leftover turkey or chicken. And I bet it would be great on liverwurst too.

It takes me a week but I get pretty deep into the Sunday NY Times. No time left for Boston, sorry.

I once wasted 10 minutes of my life watching Matt Lauer interview B. It was all he could do to not reach out and slap the gum out of her mouth.

Now that she has time on her hands pray she doesn't take up Googling the web for her own name!
