Modernistic Vesicated Ascender

Hard to believe, but it IS a cake. And if I knew you were comin', I'da baked one for you.

MILITANTPLATYPUS

BTW, the cost was £500,000. Check the link for a great video of them building it plus the recipe! (From the Militant Playtpus site: "So there you have it. All you need to make your own stunning Fabia cake car is a few hundred kilos of raw material, several highly-skilled craftsmen and women and no small amount of inspiration.

Once filming was finished we had planned to cut the cake car up and distribute it to local charities, schools and hospitals. Unfortunately, however, as the car had been under hot studio lights for several days, it would have posed a health and safety risk if eaten. We did preserve some parts though, such as the marzipan wing-mirrors and chocolate speedometer. The rest of the car was composted and will be used by residents of Clapton, East London, to fertilise their gardens and allotments.)

The Bloody Olive, a short film.

Today I picked up my collage from The Fuller Craft Museum- fun to see it again since it's been on the road for 2 years in the Trashformations show, I was fourth in line to pick-up and was signing away my rights when they brought out a huge crate- about 3' on each side and 12" deep. It was made with heavy 3/4" plywood reinforced on all edges with 2x4s, and had a top screwed on with 4" screws- about 30 of them holding the top on. No way could I lift it, couldn't even push it! And realized they expected me to take it like that. Finally I asked the janitor there to help me disassemble the crate and I got the collage out- the poor thing was bolted into the crate through metal 'T' brackets screwed to my stretcher frames- talk about overkill! Anyway I told them that they will probably have more use for the crate than I would so left it. Nice to know they were so careful. I was kinda hoping maybe somebody at Copia would have stuffed in a cheesecake for me but no dice.

Also while I was there I found the tote bags made from the oilcloth banners from Linda Behar's show. Now Linda's work is postcard sized and they used one of her images to fill a banner, then it was cut up and made into these big totes with rubber bottoms and they look so cool with her 1/8th" stitches looking 2" long. I got the last original Behar banner- probably wouldn't have sprung except for her being a friend and it being the last one EVER. I'll justify it somehow, probably Thursday when I go off at 7:30 AM with a bag of tools to hang the QC show.

Here is a plea from Harriete Berman who is looking for used pancils for a project she is doing about standardized testing. if you have any lying around (and you know you do!), send them off in a bag to her- if you can't read the address, get in touch with me and I will send the sheet to you as a pdf. Thanks!

And we finally got the plans from the architect and the kitchen planner for the Florida renovations. The contractor says he starts Tuesday, and I am hoping that means today since his letter was sent before the weekend. Wish I were there to check on things every ten minutes. Already I am second-guessing my choices of cabinets, cabinet finishes, range hood, granite AND cooktop. And throw in my fear of the outside pavers color- I am a mess. Tomorrow I mail off a few more checks and hopefully get to go back down in a few weeks to worry in person.

And finally, something I find totally ridiculous, in league with crocheted toilet paper cozies:

Yup, aprons for your dish detergent. Sure makes them look overworked, doesn't it? The thing I didn't realize is that dish detergent bottles are middle-aged woman-shaped. I am so depressed.

No pic of the tote? Come on, Sandy, share.......

And -- the blue one looks middle aged, but the red one? That one is 22 and playing house for the first time.
