Vertically Centered Tilde

Do you like this color? Would you describe it as 'tomato soup', or 'Staten Island brick' or 'rust-belt red'? Just curious. Next project is to get some sort of gate that can't be seen through- we need to block the direct view of the bedroom from drive-bys because I don't want curtains and blinds on windows any more. I need light and open windows with air coming through. First thing I did when we started this project was to toss the vertical blinds on the sliders. Then I tossed the sliders!

The new gate only needs to be closed through the central part- I like being able to see out at who is at the gate. Trouble is I haven't seen one I actually like much. Love moon gates but they don't work with the house, don't want wood because wood doesn't do well in this climate and maintainance ain't our thing.

We took down all the beautiful jasmine- you can see it piled around the columns- it reached all the way to the top and was so fat and full- smelled devine. We are planning on transplanting them to a bed along the wall on the right- except the guy who installed the pavers forgot and took them all the way to the wall. He will be our second call when we get back down there.

OK, vote on the name of the color- remember that it used to be beige with beige trim and a beige deck. Under a beige roof. With beige deck furniture cushions. And I love it now.

One summer back when we were in the big old Victorian we painted the house a nice mauve color- appropriate and historically correct. This is after it had been white for 150 years. It looked quite smashing with the teal green trim that picked up that color from the slate roof, but when our neighbors returned home from their summer vacation they came storming across the street in disbelief: 'Jesus Christ, Pink!" they exclaimed, and I might add, not with glee since they had to see it from every window in their house. So the color was called 'Jesus Christ Pink' from then on.

I love this color. I would call this color red clay or red earth or I-feel-good. Looks wonderful to me. Maybe you need some kind of metal sculpture mounted in the middle of your gate--like a big metal "No Trespassing" sign-snort!
