Umm, the oddest thing has happened. Last week I got this email:
We are happy to inform you that Handwork will be included in the juried SAQA exhibit, Transformations ’08.
Well naturally I am happy as a clam (happy as a pig in shit?) since I hardly ever enter anything any more, but I waited for someone else to announce their acceptance on the SAQA list and so far, nada. Apparently my quilt is the only one going to be there. Maybe the only one entered, so I had to get it... Monkey Mind at work again, or 'Subverting Oneself Needlessly', by Sandy Donabed- an autobiography. But don't bother to read it because I wouldn't want to have anyone read it who would actually read it--- get the picture?
So- make me happy and tell me who else got in. I have to fly to Boston to get the quilt to have it ready to send from down here in Fla Fla land- some very expensive postage! I'd rather hand deliver it to England... hmmm.
On the good news front, the glass tile was installed over the stove yesterday morning and looks quite spectacular. I want to take out adoption papers on the Guatamalan guy who did the work because he was meticulous, quiet, neat, and helpful. He changed the grout color halfway through because HE wasn't happy with it, consulted me and we waited for a new color to come in. He was right, it is now perfect, and I am one happy camper. I told him my adoption plan but since his English doesn't go beyond 'white-no,off white-yes' I think he missed the part about him working for me for life, and in turn I would smile and nod and thank him profusely every day for being my new son, a neat and tidy son! Jose Donabed- how's that sound? I wonder if he does windows...I'll buy him a car if he does.
I am feeling so sorry for myself with the studio still upside down- I am too busy to work on a project, too disrupted to concentrate, and have to focus on finding some old scraggly turkey by Thursday. I got the new charcoal grill assembled (I dislike gas grills) and TY bought the real charcoal, not briquetes so today we will fire it up to make sure it works for the turkey (assuming there is one out ther with my name on it). I will also make the traditional pilaf and imam byaldi that all the pilgrims loved so. But when the Armenian family isn't looking I stick some chipotles in the stuffing, which I get to eat all by myself. Other than a turkey, I am simply hoping the bigger glass top for my table arrives by then- we dumped the small one since the dining area has been expanded and now I can actually seat more than 4. It is no fun balancing a turkey dinner on one's lap.

What is it? You, Rayna and I are all remodelling kitchens. Please send Jose Donabed to Portland at his earliest convenience to install my kitchen tile--or maybe he has a brother or cousin out here on the left coast?
I got in, but was waiting for someone else to announce it. Actually, I don't think I'll say much online, because I see the distress caused the people who don't get in and have to wait for the snail mail rejection letter. Actually that happened to be me in the couple of shows I entered. It's nice to get the early email, but then it seems unfair when you're on the waiting end for the rejection you know is coming.
What do you think about this? I ask because I'm on a committee to do a show that will soon put up a call for entries for next spring, and I'm thinking about telling the committee we should treat all applicants the same.
nice new site, btw. I love the button buttons! Very clever.
The list is on the SAQA website if you want to see who you will be hanging with!!
