The Games People Play

Here are Hazel and Crazy Grannie (heretofore referred to as CG) playing the 'sticking-out-your-tongue' game.  I can't wait to teach her the *bad words* too.  Then, as soon as she has a throwing arm, we will try some water balloons. Let the games begin.

Yup, you read it right, Hazel has a blog! Isn't life great?

But back to my own life, after I spent the day with the little family yesterday- I am gonna tell you I have ripped off the photo transfers from the linen on the Tide Pool quilt- it now stand bare-nekkid as 'sand' and I have a suitcase full of satin to re-print all the circles when I get back to FL. I ordered a new set of inks which should be there when I get back- and this set of circles eats up a whole set! A very expensive proposition. I had tried machine stitching them down but discovered it is somewhat like stitching plates to scrim- basically impossible because I couldn't roll or fold the excess while I was working on a small part. And remember this is all circles so the whole piece has to be maneuvered around and around. Simply put, I ain't up to the challenge. And no way would this still be a quilt- it would have to be mounted on stretchers.

So I am back to square #2, square#1 being the IDEA! But the good part is that acknowledging that it isn't working has freed me up to finish putting the ugly sweater together, spending another day with the little family, and seeing some friends and doing some planning for the bridal shower I am giving a friend's daughter AND the Meet-the-Baby party I am doing the same weekend.  My next trip back to Boston.

This should be doable IF I can get a new toilet seat installed and the windows washed.  The toilet seat is special order so it won't be in for this trip, and I think I need to hire somebody to do it-  we don't have a handy soul in the family except for me and I simply cannot move the bolts that hold it on.  The windows are a pro job since we are on the second floor, just have to hire someone.  And let the party begin!

Speaking of parties, the crit group had a get-together last night to see Carol Grotrian's new presentation about our group.  She had already given it to Quilters Connection but hardly any of us were in town that week. What a good job she did! If you know any program chairs who need a different type of show, contact her to do it. She has it in PowerPoint and it came off beautifully shown on the shade in Sylvia's dining room. It was so much fun to see the old pictures she has gathered from far and wide of the group and our work and how we deal with critique. In my opinion, we are an amazing bunch or artists keeping our own voices and following our different muses for almost 30 years. This presentation talks about the importance of a crit group in general, and specifically how we formed ours, as well as what makes it work.  Shameless plug.

We took dinner over to Sylvia who is recuperating nicely, though she is getting very impatient to get back to her life.  We plan on taking her, if she is able to manage it, up to the Quilt Museum for Nancy Halpern's lecture on Saturday.  I am looking forward to it.

Try hitting those bolts with a hot hair dryer blast for a minute or two first and break out your trusty can of WD-40 - I KNOW you must have one under the kitchen sink somewhere, o handy one.
