With thanks to Adria's blog where I found this! Adria is a wonderful creative printmaker who opened my eyes to possibilities never imagined.
So, in my frenzy of work yesterday I stopped at the fabric store and grabbed 5 yards of misc. stuff for the back of the circles quilt that is simply poifect! Also scored some black and tan stripes that will probably find it's way into the binding- I like it so much that I guess the binding will have to show on this one. So, now all I have to finish up is the mess that the broken bobbin case made with it's ridiculous satin stitch. I *think* this newer machine does a satin stitch that's wider so I may be able to disguise those mistakes by just covering them up. Wouldn't it be wonderful if just one simple part of this quilt would go together easily?
Last night I got a call from my next door neighbor who had a 'little something; for me. he spends a month every summer fishing in Iceland and had a box of the most beautiful wool fleece dyed in amazing colors. He told me I must share it with another gal here but that's fine, I won't be greedy. He also showed me some felted rocks that were sent to him too so... guess where I headed- right- I spent from 6 AM to 8 AM this morning at the kitchen sink makig wool felted rocks!
Above- the fleece, below the felted rocks on the windowsill in front of my neighbor's house!
Addictive, for sure. I have a bunch more to do tonight if I reach a sewing impasse. Which is more than likely knowing the problems with this quilt.
I finished off the pieces for the linen sweater- the yarn I bought in Santa Fe last fall. Today I was messing with trying to knit a flower for the front of it but am not sure it will work yet, I may have to do a second layer of the plain brown linen to make it look flower-y. Whatevah. I was walking through Saks this afternoon after visiting my genius at the Mac store for the fortieth time and found a bracelet that looks like it was made to go with this sweater. So, maybe no flower is necessary afterall. We'll see.
Also at the Maul today was a display of costumes that were worn in different movies. Frankly I never heard of most of them, but I asked to take pictures of some and they heartily agreed so here are some. I am afraid I don't remember all the actors who wore these things and was kind of surprised at the workmanship which seemed to leave a bit to be desired. But it was certainly fun to see Lara Flynn Boyle's dress that looked like the waist may be too tight for my upper arm! The largest dress there was one made for Madonna for Evita, and we all know Madonna isn't all that portly!
So, a few things to finish up tonight. Plus I started rearranging the studio to free up some surface space by putting the printer on a rolling rack. But, duh, the rack didn't come with rollers like there are in the picture on the box. Screwed again.
