I have a tip for you- I am closing up the house to move back up north and realized I never bothered to find any window treatments. Well, really I don't want any because I adore having the light come in BUT the summer Florida sun can destroy fabrics and wood in no time so, now that the sun's angle has changed, I realize I need some sort of shades. But I am going home tomorrow, what to do, what to do...
One of my friends suggested the paper shades available at Home Depot so I went to investigate. I found the most amazing idea- they are accordian shades made of sturdy translucent paper. One edge has a sticky strip that attaches to the inner window molding, with two clips included to snap on at whatever length you want, or take the shade up and down as you wish. To shorten them for a smaller window (standard langth is 72"), simply cut it off. To lengthen, you can attach a sticky strip to the bottom of a hanging shade and then trip to fit. And speaking of trimming, a regular old mat knife (aka box cutter) and straight edge is all you need. I bought enough for 3 windows and a patio door with side lights and had enough left over for two more windows in another room and the total cost was $21.00. I am headed back for more this afternoon! Oh, they are called Redi-Shades and come in several shapes and sizes.
These are designed for temporary installations, exactly what I need them for, but my friend told me her daughter has had them up for several years now. All I want is to get through the summer season and I promise to order more permanent solutions as soon as I move back in the fall. Hold me to it.
