Sundry and Various

Got my little notice from Needless Markup in my email the other day and found these fab shoes with letters and numbers all over them, complete with the red trademark soul.  Ahh, to be sixty-four again...  I'd order these and put them on a shelf just to look at them.  Of course I would also have to, ummm, 'sell a few quilts', as we say.  The price tag is $1347.  Why that number I don't get-  why not go all the way and leap up to $1350 since they are in the neighborhood?  Whatevah, these are the fall shoes to covet, though I know some of my so-called friends will tell me I really need clogs.  Psaw.

This little guy was in an article on the Discovery website about how lizards are becoming extinct.  If you believe this, please stop by my house today at ANY time, come on in the gate and sit in the courtyard for a minute and a half.  I bet you can't count the lizards that will scurry right over your feet!  Extinct my ass.  The problem is you can't catch 'em to make shoes out of them fast enough!  And wouldn't this fellow make a fine pair...  My personal lizards aren't nearly so jazzy, except for the ones who boldly blow up their throats to a giant red pulsating ball.

I am spending all my time knitting now that I am unencumbered for a few days-  making a shawl/scarf thingy to wear for those few moments between the airport and the cab in the dead of winter.  I know, I could use an old knee sock and save myself a whole lot of money and a whole lot of time. but it keeps me busy and fits in with my new 'plan' to make more involved items that take a long time.  Here it is so far:

Each of those disks whirlygig things take about an hour and involves some attention-  that means it's perfect for my CSI marathons, so I have seen lots!  The whole thing is supposed to be 20" wide but before blocking I only have about 12"-  don't think I'm, going to make it but it really doesn't matter-  I'll just call it 'scarf' instead of 'shawl'.  When it's blocked all the little lacy holes will show up better and it WILL grow.  Hopefully when I stretch it out I won't unravel all those dropped stitches...  I seem to spend a lot of time catching things like that.  Anyway, it's coming along very well and I should probably finish before I go back to MA.  And in June I will probably need it still!

Today I am off to Melbourne, about 2 hours up the coast, to a couple of exhibits.  I will be meeting up with some new (to me) Florida fiber enthusiasts and will report back later on what I see.  Maybe they will let my camera accidentally go off!

Looking at these shoes makes me wonder how much it would cost to have reconstructive surgery on my feet to make them permanently adaptable for 6 inch heels...sighing.
