And my day is like this:
It's as if a new king or queen has taken over and has granted you the freedom of choice. You are being given a fresh start, but it's up to you to follow your dream. The path you choose may take time to manifest, but the moment to change your mind is now and not at some undetermined point in the future. You won't have all the details figured out yet, but you'll be able to put the missing pieces together along the way.The Bad: Funnily enuf I always thought I had that choice, but I'll try my 'new freedoms' anyway.
The Ugly: I found out my new Florida license works yesterday. I was driving the car with the Florida plates so I was a target for the esteemed local police force. A scofflaw, so to speak going 34 mph but in a 25 mph zone, I got the full siren and twirling lights treatment. Fortunately for me the road was hardly traveled so I didn't have to put up with the embarrassment of passersby tsk tsking my speeding vehicle. No drugs, no open cans of beer, just an over aged lady thinking too hard about other things. When I pulled over I undid the seat belt to reach the glove compartment- it's TY's car mostly so I don't know where the keeps the registration and was hunting by the time Officer Enthusiastic reached my window. I couldn't find it, but had my license ready for him. He yelled at me that he didn't have time to wait for me to find the registration and stomped off back to his car. He came back a bit later and yelled at me again for NOT WEARING MY SEAT BELT! Geesh. I told him I always wear it and took it off to find the registration which by then I had. Apparently my extensive record wasn't available to him (I got stopped for speeding 16 years ago going 35 mph! Seems that is the magic number for me so from now on I am going to go 70 everywhere!) He took pity on my poor old self, never looked at the registration I had unearthed, and gave me a warning.
The Good: I met my old best friend and we took off today for Lowell to see the Kimono show at the Brush Gallery (see previous links from yesterday). We arrived a bit early so had a coffee at the vegan place. I swear I was given a huge mug of high test espresso but the kid who made it was so young and took so long that I just drank maybe a double espresso sized portion off the top and was afraid to have more or I wouldn't be fit to drive! The kimono show had some nice pieces- they were mostly local to the Lowell artists area as far as I could tell but there were several that needed to be fully examined. We both loved a knitted version as well as several others but I didn't keep track of the names. The show was closing today so it's too late for you to see it anyway.
Off top Classic Elite at the Western Ave studios for a quick stop before the Open Studios. I got the yarns for the baby hats I am making for a set of twins coming any minute now. I got it in my head to do an undersea hat for both of them and needed sand, water, seaweed, and foam yarns. I'm not on the third hat, having ripped out the first two because of my crappy craftsmanship- of course it would help is I weren't making up the pattern as I go. I think one more rip-out will put me on the right track, and I am going to drop the intarsia parts, The hat is too small to bother with that- it's more important to keep it simple, something that is foreign to me.
Next we stopped into Gay's studio and visited (my friend is an old high school friend of hers, and I had met her independently). She took us around to a few studios, stopped to see Margot Stage for a minute, and then the gallery where I found two little sock dolls for the grandbabies and some wood-and-paint wall constructions that I fell in love with. Then I found out from Gay that the artist was the young handsome guy that stopped into her studio and we had just met. I decided I needed a few of the smaller pieces to use in Florida so spent a good chunk of time arranging and rearranging finding the combination I liked best. We had lunch and Karen Bettencourt stopped by, time to think about my purchase, then back to find Mike and make the deal. I bought 4 pieces and hope they strike the right spot between rustic and contemporary that I am looking for. And the really cool thing is I get to pick them up the day I go back to Lowell for the opening of the Paste-Up show! Perfect timing. I'll take some pictures when they are here in a few weeks.
No hail yet. A good thing. I need to get out for awhile, the Zorba music is getting to me...

Had nothing at to do with the artist being a young handsome, right? Do the rest of us need one of his pieces too? Will we have time to hit the WA studios when I'm up in Lowell in August? LOL
It was fun to see you too. Sorry I missed you on Sunday at the QC show. I liked your quilt the best, much better to see it in person than on your blog.
