Scavenging
INTERSECTIONS: at the time being by Linn Meyers from The Phillips Collection on Vimeo.
More on the Intersections show at the Phillips here. I love the juxtaposition of the final work with the Van Gogh as seen from a distance. A lovely enhancement to the museum, even if it's sadly only temporary. The delicate ink lines are so textile-y and remind me of yarns or strings that are only important in their relationships to the whole. The wall art is like that- important to the site, and to the relationship to the whole. Love it.
And I am thinking knitting again today. The Fall Knitcircus Magazine is available now with some really great kid's items. I love these online magazines and use them frequently.
Another favorite is the Twist Collective, also the fall 2010 issue and yummy for you knitters. Not a lot in it for me this time since I (sob) put a personal embargo on wool. Well, except for this (@#$%^&) Noro coat I am struggling along with. My idea was a lightweight jacket I could use for traveling back to MA in the dead of winter- just a little something to grab a nice warm cab and scoot the 15 minutes home. Unfortunately what I am building is a coat that I will be able to wear in the ice house hotels up in Quebec in February. Or for an Artic Pub Crawl. Sigh. And it weighs in at about 40 pounds now without sleeves so portable it's not.
So, No More Wool for Ms. Sandeedee (no, that is not me on the iceberg).
The old standard, full of cool projects with an edge, Knitty.com this season has a great mix of both involved beautiful garments and quicker gift items like scarves and socks- something for everyone and every skill. Each project is also rated as to skill level so you can rest easy or challenge yourself as you wish.
Also, KnitNet which involves a subscription, but the sample is here to check it out.
And Knitch which bills itself as an online fashion magazine for knitters. The flashing images are somewhat of a turn-off but the information is great.
Finally, go check KnitKnit Zine which I don't think is in production any longer but there are some articles available on-line and they published a book a few years back. Worth a look, wish it was still around!
And a little knitting inspiration from the British Museum via The Textile Arts Resource Guide:
Gwen Magee does the most amazing job on her blog (link above) and fully fills her claim to be a resource guide. I read every word with my slow eyes, not the fast ones so I can savor what she is showing us. Well, to get to the cape-like thing above, it's made of gold! No, not gold threads, actual gold, but if you enlarge the picture it is so much like a knitted design and would translate so well into a shawl or cape. I'm thinking silk so as not to mess with the shiny look. A project for a rainy day...er...well maybe a rainy season!
So, as they say, that's what I do on my summer vacation. (I didn't move my yarn 'stuff' to the studio yet!) Good thing, other wise I'd be cooking for creative release!
