You might wish that you could be reclusive this week, rather than thinking about how much work there is for you to do. Luckily, you can get out of a few unpleasant chores by just going into hiding. However, escape isn't a viable option because it doesn't offer a lasting solution. It's okay to withdraw a bit, but stay grounded and ready to interact if needed. As TY says, 'How Do It Know?' So, today I will try my hardest to be a bit more social. I've already done my 3 miles with the Walking Nazi, so that's out of the way. I am headed for the studio to work on the alphabet book, only 2 weeks to finish it and I haven't resolved how to assemble it yet. I figure it will magically come to me as I work on the separate pages. Also I bought a bunch of new boards that need to be prepared for encaustics so I can get that started. And my BFF Steve sent me the cap for the ink leak so I must get on my back under the offending appliance like a 50's car repairman and get that installed. So, tha'ts the plan. Then of course there is Thanksgiving dinner I have to work on all week.
Bergdorf's Windows, a peek at this years extravaganza, to get in the mood.
I got the bird in the brine last night and have to turn him regularly since my biggest container was too big for the bird and not big enough for the brine. I also got the gravy giblets cooked and chopped last night, the cranberry sauce is ageing nicely, and the cornbread for the stuffing is done and drying out on the counter. I just hope some will be left because the little chunks are so good to pop in my mouth every time I walk by. The butternut squash is peeled and chunked, but I have lots more vegetables to prepare for the roasted vegetable platter. Today I will make the pumpkin creme brulee (because I now have a torch! Yeaaaa!) and get it in the refrigerator. Bread is made and just needs to be heated.
Something like garlic smashed potatoes.
Something like creme brulee.
Pretty close to cornbread. All these so-elegant pictures came from a Ryzon baking powder cookbook, undated, but I would guess from the 30's. On the back page, please notice that they feature the ladies rest room:
So I'm in good shape for Thursday (except I will have to clean out my own 'Women's Service Lavatory') though tomorrow will be busy. Have to make the su boereg, which is a fabulous cheese pastry, like a cross between a Napoleon and a lasagna, but with Muenster and feta, that starts special Armenian dinners all too often, and since I am not doing pilaf this year I really must at least do the boereg! I'll make a big tray so I will have it all week to nibble on~ if you happen to stop by... I also bought some chick pea flour to make hummus, which I've never done before. I usually start with the chick peas and cook them and puree them- the flour method sounds easy so I'll report on that after the fact. Getting the truth out of TY's Armenian aunt and uncle, as to whether they like it, may be difficult. They are lovely quiet people who wouldn't want to hurt my feelings even if it's hideous-hummus. Imagine! I may have to withhold the turkey until they talk-the-truth.
