Thursday Again, oh nevermind, it's Wednesday...

As promised, here I am 'on' my Hudson River Bridge (quilt) celebrating International Women's Day. Sorry I missed the actual be-in there but frankly I am 'being-in' warmer and dryer...and obviously in need of some hair attention. (This is what happens when I use the curling iron- it gets straight. Go figure.) Let's face it, I'll never have that Catherine Deneuve moment.

And now, as you have come to expect, THE WEIRD PLANT REPORT of the day:
The band of flowers has doubled in size, looking like a wounded appendage covered in Ace bandages.
And it isn't what I was hoping for, maybe something a bit more spectacular since it's going to kill my very expensive plant that I love.
Why can't this raggy Bird-of-Paradise (believe it ot not that is an 18" flower) die? This is the one whose leaves scratch against my bedroom window in the wind and sound like cats screaming. The Bird of Paradise you are thinking of used in flower arrangements is blue or blue and orange and usually 3 or 4 inches long. This one is dirty white and the tree is higher than the house. It attracts ants to it's sticky blossoms and doesn't have a single redeaming feature other than looking tropical. And oh, it does not even smell good. Dammit.
Even seen a bad hibiscus? Well I've got one half eaten by some hungry critter- these blossoms only last a day and then they die. BUT THE PLANT LIVES ON. Ain't that the way it's supposed to be? Geesh.

Thought I'd share the piece I'm working on withoput actually letting you see it. I'm using four old quilt tops and an old actual quilt for a show coming up. Finally I started making some headway the other day and 'things' started falling together the way I wanted. I've got the whole thing pinned together and now have to start the harder work of actually sewing it into something, hopefully whole! I worked on handwork details yesterday most of the day, still have much to do but once I see it happening it gives me great relief.

I just love working with old materials and seem to be deep into that this season with Lacey-the-stiff-dog now displaying a good chunk of my old lace collection in a public place, hopefully garnering some interest for the coming auction. I can't imagine anyone actually bidding on her, but at least I am not embarrassed over my offering. Maybe someoone who is allergic to real dogs will want her as a stand-in. Then, I am also using another whole pile of old stuff, this time my redwork (real redwork, not the crap being churned out on embroidery machines by the bushel) for another project I've been asked to do. I finally got that all pinned up too and now the work begins there. There is a deadline looming soon so I have to get it further along quickly. The quilt may have to take a second row seat temporarily.

Good thing I have my new walls up, they are already covered with bits and pieces and I still haven't gotten the flannel on them.

Now, enjoy this walk in the woods! You'll cover a lot of territory and not even put your coffee down. My favorite form of exercise (Not Hiking!)

Kevin Gallagher on Vimeo made this 2200 mile hike in 4 minutes so I don't have to.
