Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art. Leonardo da Vinci

So yesterday I brought home the applique quilt from ten years ago and set up shop next to the door to the patio where the sun pours in.  Since the work is BLACK using BLACK thread, its a bitch to see, but the bright light makes it workable and I managed to sew for a couple of hours in the afternoon.  Actually I got my old applique mojo back and was speeding along quite well, so maybe I will see the back side of this project after all!  I had stopped into the repair shop to hand over the power cord and bobbin case and they told me they are ordering the sesnor hardware that day, but on the way out I tripped over the New Improved Berninas.  I was fondling the mid-level model with the polished aluminum front-  it has a 10" bed and a huge bobbin that can go all day without refilling.  It is embroidery-ready, but that's an add-on.  Since I think that machine embroidery using programmed designs is beyond hideous I wouldnt be interested in that.  But as I was doing my Vanna White imitation, caressing the machine without touching, the women came over and told me it's $5000.  But, WAIT, if I turn in any machine I have no matter the condition, to be refurbished for charity, I get 10% off, and at that price pint, 10% makes a difference.  Anyway, if you're in the market for a pretty damn fancy updated machine, go check it out--- and rent a truck to take it home.

Today I am headed back to the chair-by-the-window to sew until I drop.  Finally I have a day with nothing to do but wander around to please myself.  And sewing it is.

Pretty color wheel, ya think?  Nope, it's a Salmofan-  the salmon-matching color fan for additives in salmon farming so they take on that salmony color of their wild caught cousins.  Like flamingos, salmon get their color from what they eat and where.  People don't like to eat gray farmed salmon, hence the additive chart.  Bummer.
And in the same color family, a gorgeous Rothko being installed if it doesn't get dropped!

Ceramic artist Kelly Thiel creates sculpture inspired by nature and symbolism. Enjoy her portfolio, and see more from this talented sculptor by visiting her website.  From her statement,
"I create sculpture that is narrative of my life as a mother, wife, and artist.  My ideas and concepts often come to life through the personification of birds; unexpected forms that brought me comfort after a tremendous period of change in my life. As the story of my life shifts, I find that I also enjoy combining figurative sculpture with my birds for expression of ideas. As I pour myself deep into the creative process, I feel a soul connection to my work that comes through, I hope, in the thoughtful and expressive details."
Have you clicked on a link in Facebook and been taken to some ethereal picture of a woman flapping a scarf alone on the beach?  Follow this sappy-photography BINGO chart and if any of these pictures appear, get out o there now!  True happiness does not appear with a woman in yoga pants and a big scarf.  Sometimes it's old and wrinkly or involves picking up dog poop.  Anyway, go to
THIS ARTICLE over and Bill and Dave's to et a list of things to not pay attention to on your quest for Inner Peace.  You need this.  Take my word.

This coat, made entirely of MEN'S CHEST HAIRS if from the Dairy firm Arla who commissioned it to coincide with the launch of a new milk drink, Wing-co, aimed at men.Despite promotional material featuring a model with a clean-shaven chest, the company said the coat represents a protest against the ‘manning-down’ of British men, particularly via emasculating fashion. The coat can be yours for just £2,499.  Major Ick Factor.

Did I tell you that the dogs and I have been dived at by hawks lately on our runs down the street?  Finally I talked to my neighbor and he said that there is a nest in the tree between our houses and that they're Cooper's Hawks.  Last night I found one again at the end of the street, stood very quietly watching him semi-hidden in the tree, and another one took off into the sky from the back side of the tree.  Then Pepper tried to climb the tree based on sheer will and scared out another one-  THREE. Two of them landed on nearby roofs to watch us, the third disappeared down the street to another tree.   I imagine that one or two are the parents and the remainders are the fledglings still hanging around the neighborhood.  I'm glad they are adolesents now because their tree holding their alleged nest is being taken down soon- no matter how hard I squint, I can't find it.  Apparenlty my neighbor feels responsible for the family here-  he sets out bird seed and spends a great deal of time bird watching and these particular hawks hang out near feeders to swoop in and EAT the birdies!
Here's one of the younger ones:
Hmmm, I bet these guys are why the Cardinal family has disappeared from my tree.

     oh oh.
