Chuck Close shares his thoughts on inspiration for artists:
I have been out straight with getting warm pants to go back to Boston- I know, I know, it doesn't seem like much but as of the day before I started looking, the Maul removed all evidence of cordouroy and fleecy stuff or even sweat pants and replaced them with lightweight filmy gauzy cut off pants made of 'whisper-weight linen' (their name, not mine!) Yup, it's RESORT WEAR season. And I am screwed. Other than a new pair of black jeans, my knees will freeze. Since I am traveling up there at this ungodly time of year to help out with a 2 year old and perhaps an infant should he ever poke his head out (my money is on Ground Hog day)“The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction.”

(not my actual belly) Oh, like you didn't know that!
Also had a dinner party debacle over the weekend- one of my party attendees ended up flat on his back so I cancelled it to a better time for them, leaving myself stuck with a refrigerator full of foods. So we called a few people on our separate cells and got some relatives to come for the first team substitution, then a whole new group came on Saturday night, and for me that was the UNINTENDED part. Two dinnah pahties back to back, no thanks, but all I did was unload the clean dishes and throw them back on the table for Part Deux! Frankly it was a good thing we had two sessions because I still have leftovers hanging around. Thanksgod that I had enough wine.
The unfortunate part were the mussels, the fortunate part is I think it was only TY who got the bad one. So Sunday was a day of barfing up mussels. I am writing mussels off my dance card forever more. Nothing makes you sicker, and there is no way to find out which ones are bad if they open their pretty shells like they are supposed to. And I was SO careful. Well here- YOU show me the bad one...
So I've been working like crazy getting the baby quilt ready to travel- got it all basted and threads picked out to take with me, so I can work on that at night. I'm also taking along the Swamp Thang and all it's threads just in case I have extra time, as if... So that about fills my suitcase. That and all my electronics. I've delivered and collected on the two quilts I sold at the Open Studio as well as the commission piece so that is all off my plate finally. AND I have hemmed the new jeans so I will actually be dressed, at least for the trip back. So glad I got the calendar cleared off and the commitments fulfilled finally. One more day of racing around, then off into the wild blue yonder.

I'm disappointed that you will not be in town next week...darn...it's all about me, you see.
We are heading south to see our grandkids as you are heading north to see yours.
I had hoped to see your new studio space and what you are up to. Oh, well, next time.
G'luck on the pants! I'm wearing wool sox, undershirs, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, a scarf along with my jeans...and that's just in my studio. Today we thought it was balmy: 48 degrees, 45 mph winds and driving rain. Yuck.
I'm ready to go see those cutie grandkids!
Oh I SO agree!
huh?
