Spend the Chateau Bumpkin

'Color And Composition For The Creative Quilter', Katie Masopust and Brett Barker's new book arrived today. I was beginning to think it was a 'pigment' of my imagination since I sent the slides so very long ago. The quilt they picked is PICK UP STICKS which I did in the early 80's and has long since disappeared. In fact even the slide is disappearing- the photo looks all yellowed and dirty. With 24 slides to pick from I was surprised this was the one they used. Oh well. Got a new book that the kids will have to dispose of when I die. Bet they won't even know my pictures are in all of them.

I needed a knitting project for the plane ride to Venice and started a complicated cable shrug-thing out of amazing cashmere/silk yarn in deep purple. It was really affordable at Wild and Wooly the other day and the TomTom led me right to the door. I finally got in a rhythm and discovered one of the cables is assymetrical and I had done it wrong so ripped it all out.
Because it's so bulky I don't want to take it along in my bag so I RE-started the baby cashmirino ruffly sweater that I had all made last spring but it was too tight and I could see some lines across the back where I tried out a different knitting style when I got bored. Finally decided I would never wear it the way it was so ripped it all out and re-rolled it on my new ball winder. This time I went up a needle size---OK, two sizes!-- and I think it will be plenty big- I may have to make some adjustments when I see how big the back gets. Also I am not going to do the huge ruffle that the patern calls for- it would be perfect for some flat chested person but will not very flattering to a barrel chest. Sigh. The larger needles are making it go faster too as I am on my second ball already.

I finally heard from my friend in Texas and she and her family are OK- she weathered Rita in her laundry room along with her father, his 'ladyfriend' and dog and two neighbors. Apparently the 'ladyfriend' started to wear them all down (she is probably in her mid 80's as is her dad- I don't know about the dog.) so they took a vote to use all their gas to get rid of her and drive her somewhere else. I do hope that they don't have too much damage- they were in the house for several days even thought the eye went right over them, but with no electricity they had to leave. She finally wrote from a ranch that belongs to her DIL's family where they can stay until Thanksgiving- and the good news about that is there are wild turkeys all over the place.

Visited Target today and found the lamps I have been looking at for $400. They had silver lamps that really fit with the bedroom furniture for (drum roll) $34. Well, I also had to buy the harp and a shade but still the two of them came in for less than $100. I will look for finials next, but they look great AND I can't smell burning when they are on.

And the Red Sox won yesterday just for my kids to see! Unfortunately Nate picked Mike Hamilton as his 'date', but at least he was with someone who enjoyed the game. All's almost right with the world.
