Well, first off here is a stolen wreath from my Berroco newsletter. I know, I know. If it bothers you, then go back a year and see my own wreath- personally I can't be bothered. Maybe later I will take a picture of the one I hammered to the garage pediment at risk to life and limb. Now, go to the Berroco website and buy something. I think I will do one of those knitting bags in suede.
This great blog,Los hilos de la vida, is a group of Hispanic women in northern California learning to quilt from local artists. These are the same women who put out a cookbook a few years back with the most wonderful salsas. Talk about symbiotic relationships- this is a great collaboration because the Hispanic women get immersed in English and 'women talk' under the guise of learning new skills, and the Californians get to encourage an immigrant community and support their lives and work. Right now they are looking for good working sewing machines and fabric donations for the women and need some help. You can get in touch through the blog.
We found some strays to help us celebrate Christmas Eve tonight- we were asking everyone we encountered if they were unencumbered for the holidays but it seemed all had plans or family visiting. Well, finally, last night our next door neighbor showed up at TY's yoga class and he asked her what they were doing over the holidays and she had no plans. Whattaya know- our own next door neighbor! So I will give them a call as soon as it gets light. They are very interesting people- she is a body builder (I'm not kidding- she trains for this full time) and he owns a bridge facility- like a clubhouse for bridge players. Two years ago we hiked down to a high school auditorium to see Judy compete- she does Very Well but laughs and says it's because no one else is in her age category, 'over 60'.
Fortunately, even though the refrigerator is pretty bare, I made 2 trays of lasagna yesterday so that's the menu. We had bought some rum cakes at an Italian deli/grocery/pastry shop and couldn't pass up the sweet and hot sausages they make right there so I used 1# in the lasagna and have another pound I can grill up. Also I have three or four red peppers to grill and serve with some white anchovies, and two bottles of Prosecco for Bellinis if they are so inclined. I have blueberries and I can make a tart with lemon curd from the lemon tree out back- dessert taken care of- that and some of my homemade limoncello. Looks like I am just in the market for good crusty bread. Unfortunately the house is a mess from all my paint-by-numbers and gift wrapping.
Oh, I guess I need to 'splain myself. Maybe later.
