Spent the morning on a 12' ladder in the storeroom trying to haul this huge box down to check for the old missing quilts. When we moved here I rolled some up into logs and labeled everything well, others I folded into a box and labeled, and finally there are four other log rolls of old quilts scattered about the studio on top of the armoire where I can't reach them without the 6' ladder. I got it all down today and unrolled on the floor so I could go through them- what a massive job! I've made several hundred quilts in all and over the years I have taken one or another out of a roll and neglected to document where it went. Here's the storeroom- there are about 20 quilts in the big box, then maybe 10 in each roll behind that- all 12' up in the air. I didn't have to worry about falling, I was jammed into the corner too tight. Next photo is of one of the unrolled logs on the floor, and finally 4 rolled logs in the studio- these are mostly all the smallpieces.

The Vermont Quilt Festival is doing a retrospective of former winners and they want three of my quilts that won ribbons way back when. Well, I am flattered that anyone remembers me, but really, these things are a bit tatty from sitting in a box for the last 6 years! These are the 'former winners':
This is 'ALIENS: Oh Yes, That's the Night I was Abducted.' made in 1991 and the first time I tried photo transfer techniques. Here is a close-up of Swamp-Thing carrying me off to his lair.

And here is 'OTHER WOMEN'S PROBLEMS' from 1993. I kept a list of all the old stuff I added to this one, my first collage quilt and a feminist statement regarding a Marika DeClerc quotation where she claims that women are here to heal the wounds and to give comfort. Bleh. This one was easy to find- it's in Mandy's closet. She grabbed it for her apartment years ago but I think it's sitting in a trunk now.
The third and last quilt invited is WINTER BLUES, so old I didn't have a digital even, so took one tonight on the floor. It won it's ribbon in 1987, and was the first time I used three dimensional forms and played with reflected moonlight on snow. Here is the detail of the barn and the shadows. Of the three pieces, this one is in the worst shape so I will work on cleaning it before I send it off.
