Harass Attrition Blister

Whew, busy day! First off I got a letter telling me I have been selected for a one-woman show at a library near Boston. It's exciting because I have never had one before, but somewhat 'iffy' with what is expected of me- the work isn't insured while there, they expect me to hang it but they 'have a ladder', they don't handle sales, and I can't have alcohol at a reception. Oh yeah, and I also have to provide my own cards and mailing. Well, tell me now, who will come without the cheap wine table? Actually if I can rally my whole crit group AND my family I can do the refreshment table with 8 strawberries and a liter of Sprite so I won't complain about that anymore. But I AM worried about their 'work has to be framed behind glass' rule because it is then hooked into their security system. I'll call and get specifics after we get back from Sarasota. But I'll tell ya, it's about time I got a one-woman show. Maybe I AM a quilter afterall? We'll see. I will have to make a few more things this summer.

Meanwhile, back at the hacienda- it's MORE PLATES! Most of these were done from inkjet prints of my own photos. Some I am not happy with are the ones that I neglected to seal so the backing paint seeped though a bit. If I can figure out how to start over after I get back I will do so- I have a feeling it involves buying new plates and scraping the bad ones. Oh well.

These are about 6" plates and I have mounted a hibiscus flower and a bromiliad print from the courtyard on them. I would like to do a few more of these tropical flowers because I know they would be popular down here. And at some point I am gonna have to sell them off to pay for the habit! At over $100 to get a full set of new ink cartridges plus the glass, this is getting expensive!

I have always love construction sites and found a big roll of rusty wire at one last year. I took about 15 pictures of the dumb thing but love them for the color and texture. I picked just 3 for these little 8" plates but will do more to finish the series. Sorry the pictures are so dark but it's hard to photograph glass with the flash- I'll get better ones in full daylight and re-post.

These little sky plates were taken from my lounge chair on the desk and would have been my favorites if the gray backing hadn't leaked through because of my poor planning. But I am winging this project and am entitled to a stumble now and then. These will most definitely be redone because I love the photographs.

And finally, another too-dark picture but it's a small tray with a knife, fork, and spoon on it. I see it used for maybe bread or perhaps on a buffet for the cutlery, and I really like it for it's simplicity. This paint that bled through simply made the silver look tarnished- nice effect so I'll juust say I planned it that way.

And just because I am posting everything I did today, here is the sleeve to the latest koigu. This one will be a short kimono shape and it's great at using up the hundreds (seemingly) of reddish and beigeish skeins I have been toting around. I've wound up a few small balls so I can take it with me in the car tomorrow.
