Waiting for the Marmots

Banyon Box, 6"w x 9"l x 6"d

Sunday night report of a productive day: Here is what I have been working on for the past week, more messing with the Banyon photographs I take at the dog park. People (and some dogs) think I am nuts but I have some great pictures of these amazing trees now. Here I printed 5 of them on bleached muslin and then did some machine embroidery following the lines of the trunks. I used silk shantung and shredded it to put the sides together, and let the thread all hang so it would look more like the actual tree. After all that I made an armature to hold it in a square shape, lined the 'box' with more green silk and declared it done. It is now hanging in the bathroom where I found the only available nail. TY said he 'really really' liked it.

Finally I also got up the nerve, the phone, and the credit card to make my Mildew Motel reservation for the week after Easter. I am going to Buffalo for 2 days, then on to Boston (godbless JetBlue) for a few more. I have to meet with the woman at the Acton library to discuss my show next fall, and then I also have to get my part of the proposal together with the crit group for a show at the New Art Center. I sure hope that this one goes through because the theme really would be interesting- it's the six of us, and maybe Linda too, dealing with the 'Connections/Disconnections' between us and out work over 25 years. Last night at 3 AM I got a bright idea to include 'maps' in the artists book from each of us detailing our connections to the other various works in the gallery- we would each do one for the file, then maybe do an overlay of all of them as part of the exhibit. This could be ...sooo...cool.

I am also trying to get a party together for Amanda's graduation 2 weeks after we get back to Boston- I think it will possibly be 30 people- and her friends have (ick) little kids so I may have to stash Molly in the car for the duration. I want it simple- beer and wine and lots of easy food but I really have to get on this and get the invitations out. Geesh, my usual schedule is to not even be unpacked that fast.
