Progress

Got the batt yesterday, but I was somewhat distressed by the quilt shop I have frequented for years- seems the fabric stock is down a bit, they are dealing with less room in the new shop space, and it was just plain tight getting around. There was 'stuff', quilty stuff, gadgets and geegaws, everywhere- like it's a clubhouse with a secrret handshake. The owner wasn't there, and the really frightening thing is that NO ONE knew me! It used to be I would enter and be almost a rock star but I certainly have fallen off the map since I stopped buying fabric. I used to teach at this shop, bummer. So, I bought a few more spools of NuGray because that's all I use, and the quilt batt, and spent $100, none of which goes on my litle blue card for a discount someday. No matter, I checked my last blue card and it had expired long ago.

So, I came home and spray-glued the batt and layered it to the backing, flipped it over and glued the top on so the layering is finished and I didn't die from the fumes in the enclosed space. I had to shut the door so Molly wouldn't get sprayed- I have enough trouble with her knots without glueing them too. I drew on some circles for the quilting, small in the center and larger as they progress to the edges, then I will do straight stitching at both the top and bottom avoiding the dolls so they (perhaps) will pop out a bit. I am really happy this will be done for the show- I was worrying about not having enough new stuff and this solves the problem.

I got contacted by the NEQM yestrday about the Jane Burch Cochran brunch in December- and got Judy lined up to attend with me since we are both on committees there, exhibitions and acquisitions respectively. She said something about wearing her white gloves because it is sucha 'ladies' thing, I said no way or Jane will snatch them off our hands. Haven't seen her since Quilt Nat'l all those years ago so I am looking forward to reconnecting.

Gotta go get ready for my monoprint class, especially after being made to bu a set of (ugh) OIL paints. Don't think i am gonna get along too well in this class- the teacher called the other day and seemed a bit tightly wound. Not the way I like to work. I think I will not take fabric today so as not to piss her off too much, but of course that is why I am doing this. Also, she specified plexiglass plates, and I already have a glass one and will not buy even more stuff so I am already on her 'list'. Pictures later. S
