Incisive Excellent Prune

“in order to be irreplaceable one must be different” Coco Chanel

Thanks for all the e-mails about the choice of article that I was asked to submit. I have submitted a (new) #4 choice where I talk about enlarging toile print and redwork embroidery images to tell a story- and don't we know that telling a story is what I am all about! Anyway, I hope it goes because it would be great to write about something that I have so much fun doing. Plus I have enough examples to illustrate practically the entire magazine. Sigh. So, keep your fingers crossed for this project.

Geesh, I love toile fabrics... not necessarily used as room furnishings, the big splotchy prints are not to my taste for upholstery or drapes, or godforbid, wallpaper, but I love the little vignets nad love to make them into things that were never intended. And I love to use them in quilts after I have messed with them. I have been doing this since the old ALIENS quilt back in the late 80's, then again on the JACK AND THE BEANSTALK piece in early 90's, but my biggest brush-with-toile was on the MENOPAUSE quilt (I think back in '94 or so) where I made a Chinese man's image into me with the addition of some red hair embroidery, and made a French girl into my Chinese friend in my crit group by cutting off the blond ringlets and substituting a spikey black head of hair! On that one I also turned a couple of sheep into weird hybreds representing my very hairy dogs. This quilt was funnily enough sold out of it's first little show to a man from Japan (who paid me cash yen) so it's living in Kyoto now. Go figger, as they say.

Anyway, I think there's lots of material there for me to write about. And ruminate about even if it never gets to writing.

SOOOOO- here are some things of interest I have been collecting that aren't taking any theme so I am going to go ahead and post because my desktop is getting too cluttered. I guess the first three fall under a 'Hallowe'en' category, after that, who knows.

THORAX CAKE, certainly not for the faint of heart.

Amazing Pumpkin Carvings, and how to make your own.

I am so happy I didn't marry a baker.

And finally, in a quest for something a bit more meaningful, I will leave you with A Miniature Earth because even if you've seen it before it is worth another look. You're welcome.
