Taro Salesperson Irony

Oh, so much, so much...

Lets see where to start. I went over to Target to get some folding chairs for the dinner extravaganza coming up on Monday. I figured out that I would have to have loud music playing and stop it abruptly every now and again so everybody here would have a chance at a chair. Then I envisioned a bunch of broken hips and decided to invest in a set of bridge fold up chairs. Do you believe that the huge Target only had four in residence? Got 'em all.

And while I was there I spotted this:

because THIS

is what I have at home and believe it or not, I just cleaned the sole plate but fusing really screws up an iron and ironboard fast. So I got it home and out of the box and what do you know? I bought the SAME iron!

except it's gray instead of white. Talk about motor memory. But the good news is that now I have THIS:

and you can see the reflection of my collection of old tablecloths in the plate it's so shiny!

I've been taking this awful monoprint class at the art center, not at all what I expected. The teacher won't let me mess with fabrics to print so I am stuck using paper, not that my images are anything to write home about- here's two from this week. She insists we work from images, so I took in my Burchfield book, ie the tree is so 'Burchfieldy' . Fortunately I don't have class this coming week so maybe can regain some self respect.

Sure seems that I tend to lean left, doesn't it? (Remember I worked on these in the opposite directions before I pulled the print.)

But all is not lost, I can still manipulate leftover yarns and I came up with this while watching television. CSI is about the only thing I watch, but then again, it's about the only thing that's on all the time! I have completely lost my interest in HGTV and the Food Channel, and that just leaves murder and dismemberment, doesn't it? Well, here's my new little crocheted purse:

I just couldn't leave well enough alone, hence the dangly buttons, but I am thinking that the noise they generate is distracting and maybe I will cut them off. I had a tortise shell circle handle but the color was ugly so I covered it in the cotton tape that I crocheted with too. And it matches all my jeans
. Next I am gonna cut up a sweater jacket and make a bigger tote- it was always too large to wear anyway, so I felted it and now it's too tight giving sort of a Baby Huey effect- a perfect feltable candidate.

And one more thing, I polished my silver the other day and looked on the internet for a method my mom used to use. She would get a 9x13" tinfoil pan from the grocery, put in a layer of tinfoil, then sprinkle on a few tablespoons of baking soda, and lay the silverware to be polished on top of that. She would then pour a teakettle of boiling water over it all and in a minute all the silver was sparkly again. This works for simple patterns that don't rely on deeply carved dark areas- unfortunately my old stuff, from my grandmother and eBay, is very ornate and all the black came out of these low areas. Oh well, knowiing me, it will be back in no time. But it sure is easier than polishing each piece.
I also did my silver dollars while I was at it. These aren't collectable, only old used coins from my grandfather in Colorado.

There- is that enough irony for ya?

I just cleaned my grandmother's silver creamer and sugar bowl, that were totally black, using that same method. Created a bad rotten egg smell. It works too well--took all the black out of the patterned parts. Now they look like shiny things from the dollar store. But as you noted, the black will return soon enough.

LOL -- mine stay in a chest with the anti-tarnish stuff, including extra little anti-tarnish strips of paper. Works pretty well. The best way to prevent tarnish is to use your silver - and my Mom always tells me that it's best to wash it first (before the dishes) and dry it right away. That does seem to do the trick. aren't we the lucky dogs having something to polish!?7014
