"Whatever you may be sure of, be sure of this, that you are dreadfully like other people."
- James Russell Lowell
Lots of territory to cover- I got to the brand new spiffy Bloomingdales on opening day to spend my free $25 card, but alas and alak, there was nothing to be had. I went down to the Jo Malone counter to grab my free sample of their new scent, but another alas and etc., they were out of the samples. Well, the place sure looks shiney and now I know where to go for all those strapless cocktail dresses and $75 bras. They seem to have removed the departments with normal clothes (all together now--- 'alas and alak').
And while I am on the Bloomingdales subject, the following was the header on an e-mail ad from them I just received:
"Rock-Inspired Clothes - Designed Exclusively for Bloomingdale's"
I was DISAPPOINTED to find out they weren't talking about stone and slate and granite colored clothes. Scrolling down, the picture shows a bouncer holding back the crowds of teenagers at a rock concert. When did I get so old that 'rock' has reverted back to it's original meaning?

Took my SIL to Russo's, the vegetable stand, the other day and she picked up a little container and raved about how she ate that stuff all through Italy last month- sure enough, it was exactly what I had in Philadelphia that I had been looking for, Bufalo Mozzarella- soft and creamy on the inside- almost like a ricotta- with a thin skin. Bought a little container and scurried home like a rat to eat it up before anyone stopped me. No one stopped me, a benefit (or drawback) of living alone I guess. I had never bought it before because of the price, now price be damned.
For some reason I have been looking at photography lately, more for an interest in how it can be used in my work other than simply printed on fabric and this is what I have found that I think very interesting- three links that are must-sees:
Photo Overlays, Then and Now
Souvenirs in front of the things they are souvenirs for (Yeah, i know it dangles). Actually I saw a series of photographs that this reminds me of at Monserrat College yesterday. My son, daughter, and GFIL (girl friend in law) went to check out a graffiti-like 'urban' show that I was able to get through pretty quickly, and I ended up in another show of digital prints which I found infinitely more interesting.
Sculpture made from photos
And speaking of 'my work', I have been toying with expanding on what I did in 'Handwork', drawing on the wrong side of the fabric with the machine. But I have specific ideas of how to do this, and lo and behold, yesterday I got a package from Teddy with some toile scraps- (she knows me, she really knows me) that have answered my idea-questions without even knowing it. So, today I am no longer in the pants-hemming mode, I am clearing the decks to get started on a new piece, and can probably get it pretty far along before I have to go back to Florida. Wish the elves would come in and do the clearing so I could just start...
UPDATE: While writing on the blog I started scanning and changing brightness, and this is what has happened to the tiny pink buck:
TY tells me that the buck that had a plastic pumpkin stuck to his face has been freed- his antler bud was stuck in the handle. Apparently the poor thing hasn't been able to eat or drink and was getting very thin but some kids found the smashed pumpkin and saw a thin deer running so he has been liberated. I hate that plastic stuff, what's wrong with a sack?
And just in case you think I have been lying about like a sloth,
I have now made three of the little baby sweaters. I have found some old buttons and all that remains is to sew those on and I am set for baby presents for the near future. The bottom sweater I finished a few days ago, the heavier Koigu yarn, and I am getting pretty fast at these. I covered up the cotton sweater in the center mainly because I don't like it much, but it's done and I will give it to a baby I won't see. Enough of this Aunt Sandy crap.
'Aunt Sandy' is knitting herself a silk shawl with this stuff. It took about ten false starts, but I am finally on a roll. I don't want to make it too wide so I can wear it more as a scarf, but this silk is very stretchy so I don't think it will be a problem. The color sends me into a swoon, but I really can't say I love knitting with it- all the thin strands are easily separated and I am using the bluntest needles possible now.
My final project- TY's aunt brought over a bunch of discontinued sample fabric from their store. Apparentl;y these are made for throws and sometimes used for light weight rugs too, and all of them are about 2' square, perfect for pillows for the living room- these are georgous, and FREE. I need a few more hours in each day. Make that an order for Double Days.
