Comprehension Birch Orchid

The pesky horror-scope for today: The line between fantasy and reality is currently extremely thin, so stay conscious of which side you are on. Who, me?

Barbara Elaine wrote today to tell me that a woman had given her a xerox copy of an old magazine article she had saved to show her- the woman told her that she would love the work in the article because it was 'just like hers'. Well, she had cut out an article I wrote a few years ago for American Quilter! Ole Barbara and I had a laugh over that. We have always seen the similarities on how we see things and how our work develops- it was sort of reaffirming that someone else does too.

So, the big news today is that my poor old mechanical sewing machine finally seized up completely.
This was my first Bernina from almost 30 years ago and it doesn't owe me a thing- in fact I owe IT because it had soldiered on through thick and thin all this time with only two professional cleanings, and those because I felt guilty, not because it was having problems. Anyway, I was going along fine and all of a sudden the wheel wouldn't turn, the needle wouldn't go up or down and I took the thing apart to check the problem and cleaned it good while I was at it. Not good. Packed it up and took it to Ye Olde Quiltte Shoppe, my convenient Bernina dealer around the corner. I was panicked because I am so far behind on the Buck quilt and the show is in a matter of days now. I gave them the old machine and asked to see a new one- next thing I know I am the proud owner of a brand new Aurora 440 which does everything but
vacuum. I tried it out in the shop, fell in love, and it followed me home.

UNFORTUNATELY the machine repair guy was in the shop at that time and looked at my poor old sad machine, gave it a whollop and the damn thing is back working again with only a grease stain to show for my troubles. I now have two machines that I have to get back to Boston. And one of those I have to completely LEARN. Geesh, do you believe all this stuff? (Pardon the crappy images, they were both stolen from eBay.)

And while I am talking about quilts, I found these very cool Contemporary Japanese Quilts on Apartment Therapy today. Not at all what we think of when we think of Japanese work, is it? Love the new direction.
And I leave you with more words from Vincent: It is better to be high-spirited even though one makes more mistakes, than to be narrow-minded and all too prudent. Vincent Van Gogh
