Boustrophedonically Justified Fore-edge

Today I spent the whole morning packing additional stuff, then did a knitting tutorial for my friend Eirin who seems to need a little help as her baby blanket is now going to measure over 11 feet on the working edge. Anyway, she came over and nicely took me to lunch for re-doing a ball or two and hopefully getting her back on track. The joke is that her grandson will be able to take this to college with him.

So I got home from lunch at the Loggerhead Cafe, which unbelievably I had never been to- right on the beach, full of happy people and some great food! Who knew.

I took Molly out for a walk just now and was greetied at the gate by a Pileated Woodpecker up close and personal! Very exciting as I had only seen them at a great distance. As I stood there watching him bang away at the tree across the street, he flew closer to me and landed on the trunk of a palm so he was perhaps 8' away. Molly was quiet and just watched him too. A real treat.

Pileated Woodpeckers are very similar to that almost extinct Ivory Billed Woodpecker thay have just recently seen in Alabama again- abouut the size of a crow, same coloring except that the Ivory Billed guy has white on his wing sides. Here he is:

And this comes as an exciting climax to my Woodpecker Week- I had seen a red-headed woodpecker working away at a tree just yesterday on my walk.

I wonder if there is a woodpecker feeder I can hang to get 'em closer inside the courtyard- maybe something filled with grubs.

Over and Out.

The big P's are impressive. We have a lot of blighted old pines in the neighborhood here in GA which draw a variety of woodpeckers including the Pileated.

If you have any dead trees or limbs on the property that can be left safely in place they will draw woodpeckers.
