Unforgivable Pollywogs

You'll love this David Blaine parody: and if you search a bit on YouTube there is another one equally hystercal.

So, I am back from Adobe Disneyland and facing down real life again. Today is TY's birthday and his present hasn't arrived yet- got him two nature videos from National Graphic which will be great on his new tv- remember the one he gave me for MY birthday? Well, he has taken up residence in the bedroom now, even wants to eat in there.

Also got him, as a joke, two old CDs of the Firesign Theater- something from even before Monty Python that we loved when we were dating. How long ago wss that? Well, nobody had televisions except the tiny portable black and white ones, so there was one place that rented large room spaces (as I remember it was in a basement), set up a bunch of boxes around the room to sit on, and we all watching a 'big set' and were simply thrilled to see it. I don't know how they showed videos back then- afterall, there weren't even tvs in bars in the late 60's. But we would all watch some comedy troop, smoke dope in the dark, and bring beer. What a thrill it was. Sort of a 1960s rave...

But thre I go digressing from the pot of shortribs I made last night for dinner today. I have a cousin that I haven't seen since he was maybe six- that was 55 years ago. He and his wife have been driving around up in Maine and called to say they would be in town tonight so I am giving TY an actual relative of mine for dinner tonight! The shortribs have been cooked to shreds so today I boil down and reduce the sauce, shred the meat up, and get the pumpkin ravioli ready to pile it on. At the end, during the reheating, I am adding some dinosaur kale to cut the sweetness a bit. Then I was going to make an apple crostada but find I am almost out of flour so instead have changed to making an apple crisp, Yesterday I made the custard for the maple ice cream by reducing down 2 cups of syrup to one, so today I will stick it into the ice cream freezer just before dinner. A crostada would be more handsome but I am trying to empty the pantry and refrigerator before we leave.

Speaking of which, I got a call from the Homeowners Assn in FL and they tell me that I didn't put my new house color up for the Desigh Review Board so we will probably have to repaint the whole thing. We had picked a rusty red (the woman who called said it was 'tomato soup') and I bet it looks fab BUT it is out of the perameters of what is an acceptable choice so we might have to return to beige or taupe or yellow like every other house in the compound. Damn. And believe me, the so-called 'Desigh Review Board' has allowed some pretty awful things to happen around there- as long ad they are beige they slip through. Sigh.
