Back in 1936 a teenager in the Netherlands went to a shooting gallery and was photographed as she pulled the trigger. If you hit the target you get the photograph as a prize. She returned every year and accumulated photographs that have been put into a book that chronicles this tiny little lifetime obsession. You can see the progression of photographs here that take her up to age 88 with her rifle aimed at the camera. Amazing collection.
(note: do not let your dogs wrap their heads in bubble wrap)
I'm getting ready to start work on the fiberglass pooch that will be auctioned off for the local animal shelter later this year. I've already checked with my fiberglass animal guru, Laura Cater-Woods who gave me some excellent tips and advice since she has had lots of experience in the care and feeding of these critters, though her expertise is in horses. There are several different models to work from, one of them is a bulldog like this painted pup:
And UGH UGH UGH, I then found this advertised for sale:
A full set of bulldog bones for $650. (I'm not going to link to the site, it's just too disturbing.) On the same site there was also a dog skeleton put together that was about twice as much. You can bet I won't be getting it 'for research' on this project, prefer instead to rub the adorable Molly intact because she loves to have her bones discovered. So, my problem is, how can I make this pointer/lab-ish dog into a Tibetan... I have decided against cutting up mops and glueing them on because of the weather issue.
And finally, the Sunday Horror:
You might think that you would be happier if there were no shadows at all, but the darker places of mystery are crucial to understanding the full spectrum of living. You may even take it upon yourself now to bring something out into the open, where its power could be diminished. Keep in mind that it's not nice to betray someone else's trust. Treat their secrets as if they were your own.Not to worry, your secrets are safe with me, there is nothing I want to bring into the open. Wish I had some secrets of my own, maybe I would if I didn't write every detail on this stupid blog.
And speaking of the blog, I had my usual 3 AM lightening bolt vision this morning about how I need to update and CLEAN IT UP. So one of these fine days I am going to become a minimalist- won't you be surprised... I know I will! Now go out there and carpe your diem while I read the Palm Beach Post to find out who got shot and whose body got dumped in which mangrove swamp...

Sandy, You might want to visit the Nick Cave exhibit at the Norton. He has some fabulous lifesized bears that are covered with sections of recycled sweaters. Great inspiration! I would think they are fiberglass...the upright bears must be close to 8' tall.

Amazing story about the woman in the shooting gallery. I loved it! I looked through a few of the photos to see if I could a Watcher. But didn't. Probably only makes sense if you watch Fringe....
