Now who doesn't love a balloon?
Balloon Fiesta from Michael Salisbury on Vimeo.
me. I don't love a balloon. They pop. These people are in wee baskets under a balloon that has fire and gas tanks propelling it across mountains and pointy trees! You couldn't get me in one of these things if they were loaded with cheesecakes. However, I would love to be sitting on the ground watching them float about, even if it means I have to forego the cheesecake. I am not big on adventure, but I do love armchairs- can I haul one of them out onto the mountainside to watch from?
News from Ganymede: I mixed up a batch of very clear white paint, transluscent is the word, and stuck it in a bag the other day. It managed to survive until yesterday when I slathered it all over my background canvas muting my previous attempts at cloud-like formations made from lace a bit. I spent a fortune at two different fabric stores looking for transparent fabrics but couldn't find much that was in the 'appropriatly priced' department. No, I will not spend $65 a yard to glue 2 yards up! I did bring back 4 different hunks of fabric but only one has possibilities which I will test out today. It's a shot organdie that switches from rust to blue depending on how you look through it. It MAY work to modify my icky paint job, we'll see today.
In other Ganymede news, I printed 5 or 6 wide format images onto different papers successfully, thanks to the x-ray films of my colon I've been using as my leader to get the soft and filmy stuff through the printer. Finally there is a use for my colon. So here's my tip: you only need several xrays to cut to standard sizes. I made one yesterday that is 13" x 17" and used it for all the papers with repositional gluestick. Only one piece or ricepaper ripped a bit because I was pulling it off when it was too wet, but it glued down beautifully and you'll never know. (Well, I guess now you do know...) One print was 19" long and because it was beyond the size of the xray I didn't think it would work but it did. So, it was nice that SOMETHING is working out for a change. I have lots of colon left, and after that I have my mother's spine, and this summer I collected TY's achilles AND his knee films. I'll be in business for years.
But meanwhile, the place is a mess and my project today is to get it picked up. I tend to throw stuff into piles until I can't see the floor, then in order to do anything I need to do some housekeeping. This time it involves cleaning out painty brushes.
I'd rather buy new ones.
