So, yesterday I had a stellar day in the studio experimenting with encaustics thanks to Laurie. Laurie came equipped with all the stuff necessary, plus a few loads of 'not necessary' that of course I had no idea about. She started off talking about what one can and cannot do- thus the 'theme' picture here that turned up in my Google reader today.
(Happiness in Brussels created this limited-edition line of posters by substituting oil from the Gulf spill for traditional ink.)
Of course oil and water don't mix, but it's hard for me to 'get it' when I have to translate to 'wax and acrylics don't mix'! I went out and procurred a little laser printer so I could print images to transfer, though I didn't have a lot of luck with it- I need to go back today and work it through. I spent all my time embedding papers into the wax rather than spending too much effort on image transfers. That's for today and I hope I can get it going. I *love* the wax! This seems like something I will love doing and use for just about everything from now on. Translating it into fibers and collage is easy because it's basically what I do anyway but with the addition of wax. If ANYTHING turns out you can bet I'll stick it on the blog, but for now it's just play to see the possibilities.
The studio had to be completely picked up and all stuff put away for this because we used every inch of my 2 4'x8' foot tables. Now I have to go carve myself out a tiny space to finish up the Hudson River quilt and work on the other things I need to be doing under my self imposed deadlines. Quilt has to have the top finished before I leave for Boston on Saturday. Scarf has to be finished before I come back to Florida on Wednesday. Alphabet book has to be completed by early December. The Lacey McCurtain project I want wrapped up by New Years- just to get the dog mess cleaned up from that will be a bonus. The Sketchbook Project has to be ready to roll before Christmas. Additional image book still nameless needs to be done by the same time. Then, of course, there is Christmas shopping, a Thanksgiving dinner, another trip to Boston, and various other interruptions in the studio schedule I will have to work around.

A bit tired? Need a quick 40 winks? Try this:
Here we have a comfortable soft i-Sleep pillow with which you can sleep on your laptop. i-Sleep pillow can be attached on top of your laptop. If you feel sleepy, just close your laptop, and a pillow gets filled with warm air, music is being played and after 10 minutes the alarmclock rings. Couldn't be better unless the cover was 400ct cotton...
I closed too soon, didn't include the synchronized hamsters! How could I be so neglectful! S
