“I merely took the energy it takes to pout, and wrote some blues” Duke Ellington
And now since I promised to do it, I will talk a bit about a slice of process today. I am cutting 2 1/2" squares, 1269 of them, for the quilt I am starting. I could cut less and combine like-value squares into shapes, but have chosen instead to go for fabric and texture variety. Before I left the studio today I hit 100 squares, an that was only from some strips I handily had lying around read to lop off. Then I went to an actual quilt shoppe and bought $150 worth of additional fabrics, a whole sack full of 1/2 yard pieces. So tomorrow I start stripping them all into 2 1/2" wide pieces to be carefully stacked and lined up to become tiny squares. Then I have an arduous job ahead of dividing them into 6 sacks of values before I can start construction. Oh, I do hope this plan works out because I don't have a back-up plan. And I am second guessing the draw-out I have already completed. Arty Angst. The piecing will be grueling because each 9 patch is entirely different from any other and I will have to keep everything straight and labeled at all times. I just hope it actually looks like all this work when completed. There, that's the end of process today. (Note how I caught it right before I crossed the fine line into whining!)
