I had NO idea when I read the Nstar email yesterday about a little power outtage... I thought they meant a little fix out on the main street that may make my clocks blink for a bit.
HA. They got me. I give up.
instead the electricity went out at 8 this morning so I continued on reading the paper and drinking nice hot coffee UNTIL I went for a refill and the coffee was cold and the kitchen was dark. And I have to use a candle in our interior bathroom to brush my teeth. And my cell needs charging. And because it's raining and cold I planned on sewing all day.
It's now 4 PM and we still don't have electricity, I am trapped inside because the halls and stairs out are pitch black and my flashlight won't work and the friggin' garage doors are on remote control. Sure you can open them manually BUT you need a ladder to get up to the ceiling to get ahold of the rope to hang from it to counter balance the weight of the door! And remember that climbing ladders in the pitch dark while holding candles to see what the he'll you're doing is perhaps not the brightest move at my age and steadiness level.
So I waited to take the dog out as long as I could, put on the rain gear, took my keys and got her leashed up and out I went into the pitch black stairwell. We felt along the wall until we found a corner and then followed the wall down a flight of stairs and around a corner. Molly was like leading a goat- she wanted nothing to do with going down 2 flights on my guidance. but we finally hit the bottom still on our six feet, opened the door I to another black hall and felt out way out to the front lobby. the lobby seemed like klieg lights wer on us but in actuality it was just the light coming in through the crombled weather stripping on the front door. Out we went into the rain.
I remembered that there is an emergency flashlight in my glove compartment, so into the black garage we went and we felt out way along and found our car. This flashlight is a joke but it worked just enough, so back out to the rain, around the building and back into the dark. By now the lady on the first floor had a candle out by her door, so it was much easier getting back upstairs.
And here I sit huddled under a window with fading light watching the iPad make unbelievable errors that I am too tired to fix. I am so happy I have this darn thing, never fully appreciated it before. But, since I have no idea what the night holds in store for me, I am going to close it now to save power. I only have enough light to read for a short time so it's back to the book for now,
This sucks. And I am afraid to open the refrigerator! Over and out.
