Working today on the binding on Four Turkeys and stopping myself from adding any more layers to it, at least for now.  Eyeing a bottom of a box that would make an interesting stamped design, no no no no!  Need a keeper to put me back in the car when this sort of need to mess with paint comes over me.


And another yeller quilt-  this one made of antique cigar band ribbons and found for me by my pal Teddy Pruett.  If ever there is something odd out there, believe me, Teddy can find it.  And this matches another old find- a cigar box ribbon pillow cover!  But the pillow cover has loose ends of ribbon hanging out on all sides and the silk has pretty much shredded.  This is still in OK shape.  Showing it to you because of the 15 centerpieces-  I may have to take this along for the rehearsal dinner table.  Note I said 'have to'?  

 Here is the back of the little quilt showing the stitches and mounting on muslin.  I really should add a faux back to finish it off-  it doesn't have too much longer to be with us-  the silks they used were meant only for one use and then to get tossed, so it's already past it's shelf life.  Love the bright color yellows.

Them:  "So, Sandy, what is it you do DO in your 'shop'?"

Me:  "Well, it's not a 'shop', it's my studio where I work on my art"

Them:  "So it's not a store where I can I come to buy things?

Me:  "Nope, it's just a working studio full of all my stuff.  Stop by sometime and Ill show you what I do!  And actually I do sell my art, but it's not like a store with a cash register up front. Just a big place where you can walk around touching things and asking about them and hearing my stories."

Them:  "We're busy then."

So, remember the other day when I sprained my wrist with my fabulous new powerful Real Tools DRILL?  I was drilling out 2" circles from the stacked and glued cigar boxes to fit in some glass bud vases for the flowers.  It worked fine once I bought a new $100 drill, and I was left with all these little 2" biscuits that have parts of the colorful cigar box papers still on them.  After I sanded down the edges, I couldn't let them go to waste, could I?  So I added some beads, some jewelry findings, some hemp tassels, and today I glued gold ribbon edges around the disks.  Voila, a necklace, admittedly a big one but that hasn't stopped me yet.

 And a detail shot of three of the disks-  some of these are from Cuba, and made in the 50's, but now I can't tell which ones.  Too bad, but nobody will care-  they will simply be dazzled by my jewels!  

My husband is not enchanted by my choices in jewelry, yet hasn't offered to step up to the plate with boxes of ethically mined anything.  No problem here, I LOVE the weird stuff.  But I bet you already knew that.  

Never had an engagement ring, and I find my wedding ring too annoying to wear.  

Cigar box jewelry?  No problem-  bring it on.
