To be full of joy when looking at an oeuvre is not a little thing. (Hans Jean Arp)
Sandy Sez: LOL- I was flipping channels last night and hit upon Kim teaching her mother Kris to 'talk gangsta'! Because a 60 year old bedazzled rich woman wants to 'fit in' with the hip hop crowd. Gag me. This little two minute glimpse compresses the whole sick series in just a few words. I immediately thought of this cartoon and had to get it to you! (As I was reverse flipping channels I caught Kris learning to pole dance with her daughters. WTF??? Is there not one shred of decency and decorum in that family? How about some class?) Let's try it:
"I don't like the Kardashians and shit."
And now I'm gonna go crochet.
I'm sort of at loose ends now that I finished the alligator, so I need to get going on a new project asap, before I start cleaning closets and watching Bravo all day. I have three quilts in mind, and to break from a long standing tradition, they are all bed quilts. Seems I have a bit of a nesting instinct going on because I need them for the new house. It won't do that I put old quilts on the beds, will it? Anyhoo, I need to make two for a guest room that are black and white in a sort of Modern Quilt form, maybe two different variations of xxx's or maybe one 'X' and one of +++'s so they should go together quickly. I just don't want them to smack of religiosity, need to keep them more red-crossy Then, of course, I will have them quilted because they won't be something I will spend grand sweeps of time doing. The third quilt will be for my own bed and I am thinking whole cloth white with just the design in colored threads. This could be a killer, but I'll continue thinking it through before I go buying any expensive fabric- a sobering thought is that the dogs sleep on the bed. Reroute the plan...
But to get down to real arty bizniz here this morning-
In 2012, artist Austin Kleon gave us Steal Like an Artist, a modern manifesto for combinatorial creativity that went on to become one of the best art books that year. He now returns with Show Your Work!— “a book for people who hate the very idea of self-promotion,” in which Kleon addresses with equal parts humility, honesty, and humor one of the quintessential questions of the creative life: How do you get “discovered”? In some ways, the book is the mirror-image of Kleon’s debut — rather than encouraging you to “steal” from others, meaning be influenced by them, it offers a blueprint to making your work influential enough to be theft-worthy. Kleon is also famous for his crossed-out newspaper poetry art, like these, that carry his messages:
And finally, he speaks of the importance of attribution, sharing, and learning! Find him HERE!

Imagine trooping across the Santa Barbara mountains and coming across these amazing yarn bombed rocks! The colors against the unrelenting beige are amazing. Unfortunately the rocks remained dressed for only an short time since this was a specific project. Love!
Look carefully at these abstract designs, make them bigger to study more closely--- read on.
Boston based pilot and photographer Alex S. MacLean captures aerial images of playgrounds, parks, and other American leisure spots. The simple shots expose an interesting variety of colorful compositions that gather an almost abstract and often painterly representation of modern urban planning. His compositions are often unintentionally metaphorical and insightful, as their lively presence unofficially represent the types of things that these landscapes stand for: beautiful, fun, and often pleasurable places to be in and to look at.
Errata- I just realized that the opening posters from today and yesterday make me seem like a pathetic shut-in! Not true. They are picked randomly from my list of pithy posters and it just happens they came up next to each other. Do not send me any flowers, I'm fine, really!
