Not Spell Of Flummox

Art Quilts Online

Well finally some good news! I got accepted to the 'Every Woman' online show and had actually forgotten I even entered. Or maybe I just chose to ignore it. So today Kim wanted the pertinent info- the piece picked was 'Sync or Swim' and it's kinda hard pretending it to be an art quilt but it IS layered, it DOES have fabric, and it is held together by stitching- that's more than some pieces can boast. Here's the piece:
Ohhh, bad photo with the flash- guess I should re-photograph one of these days. And here's the info on it: what: 'Sync or Swim', 24" x 24", $500

huh?: mixed media fabric collage layered on stretched canvas with embroidery. Vintage dress pattern pieces are printed by computer with female 'water' images around a central pool. The canvas has been removed so light shines through the 'water' fabric with pearl bubbles and rayon thread foam around the edges. Even the title lettering was cut from pattern paper, scanned and resized.

oh yeah...: I was remembering back to my high school days when the only organized athletic events for girls were cheerleading and water ballet. The bathing cap rule eliminated many from water ballet so the girls remaining were a varied lot sharing just the common thread of being able to hold their breath for a long time. Body image wasn't a water ballet issue for the participants- this is my perspective because I had a body image issue. And didn't participate. So I am now.

KOIGU KOIGU KOIGU! And what else have I been up to? I-CORD! Miles and miles of I-cord for the whole perimeter of the Koigu jacket. Here is also a closeup of the collar which has three bands of I-cord on top of 9 rows of crochet. As of today the entire jacket is finished except for another row of squares around each sleeve

This is the finished top for the members QC raffle, actually made with the leftover blocks. There were enough blocks entered to do the entire front and back of the main big quilt and then these were remaining along with enough to do a few charity quilts. Folks really liked doing their own thing and sent too many blocks! I got it off the wall and down to DHL today for Mac to deal with. We seem to have a bit of lead time- not due to be finished until May next year!

I like the quarter circles so much that I am messing with them myself- have 60 blocks cut and ready to go- here are the first 16: I've actually added another round on this and am bisecting all the squares with an orange inset spiral. Then the squares will be sewn together and the stripe will be all jumpy from one block to the next. Hopefully. I am trying to decide if half should be greens and half orange- same Versace very expensive silk fabric in different colorways, so will sleep on it tonight. Tomorrow this will be unrecognizable.

And finally here is the ever lovely Molly smiling with her eyes open for once. Isn't she the Best? Oh, nevermind.
