I have been back reading Quilt Art wearing my black hood and zipped lip, and have been looking at links of 'old friends' when I found Rayna's Blog. I remember how much I used to enjoy her posts and how hard she worked back when she was just starting out. Now she is really getting the recognition and attention she deserves.
Rayna's blog reminded me I am still pissed I was REJECTED from the Quilters Blog Ring. Maybe I should..uhhhh...make some more quilts?
That said, I finally finished the last front of the sweater-from-hell. Halfway up the front I had to use yarn I had unwound from this same sweater I had made last year but was too small and there is a definite line where I changed to the slightly crimped version. I am blocking all the pieces now so am hoping that it all comes out in the water. As soon as they are dry and I can get them together I get to start the front ruffle, which I am modifying a great deal- it will be much less full plus I am adding stripes of deep purple and chartreuse at the edge (not just because I ran out of yarn!) Anyway, this ongoing saga is about over.
Just made the brine for the turkey- turns out I did have a pan big enough. The real problem is no roasting pan so I may have to resort to those tinfoil things in the grocery store. I don't want to buy more unnecessary stuff for this house if we are going to move eventually, plus I have all this stuff in triplicate at home in Newton. Gravy boats? No problem- I have my grandmother's, my mother's and a few of my own! Ask me how often I make gravy...

And now a word about Sandhill Cranes: seems Molly tried to catch a couple yesterday on our walk. I usually don't use the retractable leash on her for these early morning walks but did since we were going the long way around. She spied the cranes and crouched down low like she was a Real Dog instead of a Muppet Dog, stalking, stalking, stalking and then BLASTING into their private space. Well they took off as best they could- they fly like ostriches with lots of flapping and honking and flutter. They could only go 20 feet across the road and the Fearless Muppet was crouched again. Molly weighs 20#, the cranes are 4 feet tall and probably 50# each- they could eat her for lunch. It was all quite funny for all of us except the cranes. These guys have been known to attack golfers on greens, plus they tear up lawns and courses with abandon- they make it look like heavy earth moving equipment has come through. And yes, I stole the crane images off Google (one is credited, the other not) since I didn't have my camera with me- sorry Rayna. sigh.

I hate when I don't get comments so let me be the first. You were REJECTED from the quilter's blog ring? I didn't think they rejected ANYBODY. Don't they know how famous you are? Cheesh! Time for a protest march.
I have to run out now to my grandson's b.d. party but will finish reading this fascinating saga when I get home. And I expect to be in West Palm Beach end Jan for a couple of weeks, so maybe YOU need to get the cheesecake ready for ME!
Hi Sandy,
I found your blog via Rayna's blog and remember you so well from QuiltArt past. QA seems like a lot of glop to trudge through these days, just for the occasional gem, but I can't seem to pull away. I do occasionally grumble about how inane some of it is and get no end of hell that I am not "nice". Being "nice" seems to be a big deal.
Don't puzzle over who I am or where we met--we never have met, except online. Nice to see your name again and I hope you'll post some work.

hi Sandy, with ear rubs to thedarlingmissmolly! stalker of cranes and other big scary objects.
what a trip. i found your website - great new work! and your blog from there.
fie on being *rejected* what a narrow world this is sometimes. and fooey on qa as well, it's the same drivel as always, with ocaisional bits of something interesting here and there; the same irritations but everyonce in a while somthing truly nasty. and once in a great while someone pops up with something real to say. still it's nice to know you are out there.
I read "Milion Little Pieces" and found it painful, difficult and absolutely worth reading. what an honest voice. don't know if i could do it on tape though.
sam and i have been to the river, now i'm off to do the work out thing.
will look forward to updates on this year's TDay.
