Sunday morning, coffee in hand. I am schlepping around from room to room kicking boxes and wishing I had the next pile of them to fill. In case you aren't aware, I have to pack up the whole house and send it away to storage for the summer while we have new floors , new bathrooms and a new kitchen installed. Funny how dated stuff looks down here in FL. When we built this place we had it done simply, ceramic floors, concrete deck around the pool, builder's special cabinets. But now the new houses are going up with beautiful pavers outside, stone floors, and very upscale kitchens and bathrooms. We are on a street of small houses in a community of big fancy places and that's fine because I don't want big. But the cottage next to us sold last fall for an amount that we found staggering since it's comparable to ours in age and space. So, rather than let ours just crumble back into the ground or be overtaken with mold, we are upgrading. It will be an investment that will keep the value going up along with the rest of the houses here so when we do decide to sell, we won't be calling one of those posters along side the road, "WE WILL BUY YOUR UGLY HOUSE".
Here is the soon-to-be studio with all the spare bedding packed up and my faithful companion wondering "what the hell...?" The second picture is my current 'studio'- yeah, all packed away in the corner of the closet- now wonder I am frustrated, eh?
My McCoy collection- it seemed like a good idea at the time- every trip down here I would go over to the antique mall and buy another piece because I love the lines, but eventually the McCoy dealer moved on to eBay and it wasn't right here right now to take home so the collecting stopped. I am taking all my dark blue McCoy home to my daughter, it isn't in the picture because it's packed. I find it amazing how the internet has changed so many businesses. The antique mall at the end of the street was one of the drawing points to this place- I would wander in there for hours and they grew each year into adjoining shops. This was about 1992. But by a few years later, the people manning the booths had discovered ebay so pulled out of the booths and now do business from their dining rooms.
A neatly packed box, the start of the process. Believe me, as time goes on, the boxes are being filled by me throwing stuff at them from across the room.
The pantry closet. I have removed the right hand side of stuff. mostly art supplies and silk screening equipment. This side is where I unloaded groceries and only kept the basics in the actual kitchen. Not a good plan because I always forgot what I needed and ended up with years worth of duplicates. Last fall I went through and tossed all the expired-by stuff. This closet will become a new counter with a little bar sink and a small under-counter beverage refrigerator and lots of cupboards overhead for glasses. It will be good riddance to the pantry closet.
So, if you see anything you want, email me quick and it's yours! Meanwhile today is magazine day- I will toss many years worth of stuff without going through it all. The only things I will save are the Surface Designs and a few knitting magazines- probably rip those up and just save a few patterns if I get to it. OK, time to start in again. Sigh.
