One of my knitting blogs included this ad for children's mittens that I think is kind of inappropriate. Did you ever see the TV special about the lobster claw hand deformity? One guy earned his living in the circus and all his kids got the deformity handed down to them. There is also a beautiful woman newscaster with it who has just started to keep her hands on the desk. Her kids also have it. So all in all, I think that making lobster mittens for a kid may be a tad insensitive. IMHOSo, that is about all I won't knit these days. I just got these off the blocking board. As you can see I am still unaware if I am knitting for a girl or a boy and hope these will do for either. The purple is a wool/cotton combo and I think I have enough yarn for a little hat. The inside buttons are 2 different colors and it can be reversed for whoever wears it.
Next is an organic cotton side to side sweater. In certain lights you can see the different natural cotton colors but I frankly hated working with this yarn- it split so easily because of the (almost non-existant) twist, and stitches were forever sliding off the needles. All I want to do on this is use a bit of brown around the button hole so it looks like a birdhouse with that ceramic bird button coming out. Yes, that button was from an old necklace from the 60's that I bought at one of the first ACC craft shows when it was in Rhinebeck, NY. Lots more where that came from.
And here is an update of the Koigu blankie- I am in the home stretch now, working my way around adding the blocks at the rate of one a day. I think there are 9 blocks to go before it's time for the edging.
And I picked up my cups the other day that I had ordered months ago. The *problem* is that they are the wrong size so now I still need another large one and three more smaller ones! These are my new coffee mugs, nice and thick so the coffee stays hot, big so I don't have to get up to refill, and with some of my favorite motifs- bugs! The S&Ps and little tray were a gift from my son last year, so naturally I need more of the pieces. The artist is Laura Zindel.
And finally, you may have heard me complaining about not having any relatives, not knowing any of my cousins or aunts and uncles, and not having a single relative at my daughter's wedding other than my own kids. The reason for this is that my parents moved away from Colorado fo get work in Buffalo back in 1940. Travel wasn't so easy back then so we didn't get back to the mountains more than a few times, this picture commemorating one of them. It's labeled "Ft. Collins, Christmas 1947" and has my dad's family all lined up. The original picture is 1"x2", can't believe it enlarged so well.
That's me in the white dress and the typical mad face, and the baby being held by my grandfather ('Rattlesnake Pete') is my brother. My mom and dad are directly above me. So, what's this all about? See the little kid to the left sitting on my uncle's knee? That is the last Townsend from this line. He lives in Oregon and got in touch with me the other day because he and his wife will be in Boston soon. I haven't seen him since he was about 6, and I cannot wait! It will be New England Fall Dinner time. Hmmm- baked apples or Indian pudding...

I guess it's a good thing I can't knit. My three yr old nephews have these hooded bath towels printed with 4 foot tall lobsters and with "claws"built into the corners. The overall effect of two giant lobsters was so good that they wore them as Halloween costumes.
