I Don't Like Pink

You cannot understand anyone else's motives very clearly today because you are looking at the world through rose-colored glasses.
Your eagerness to aggressively defend yourself or someone you love is admirable, but your current intensity can complicate things even more. Don't be so quick to fight for your beliefs. Wait a few days to see if your point of view changes before escalating a difference of opinion into an open conflict.

I also don't like 'open conflict' so today I will tread lightly and keep my head down. I can't imagine I'll get in too much trouble because for the morning I'll be in my stitching group, then a quick lunch and a run to the studio where I have a 4 hour 'window' waiting for Ikea to bring my some-assembly-required bookshelves. You know I will be there the full 4 hours before they knock, right? I am really hope they get there early so I can start getting the stuff together before I leave for Boston. I moved the furniture around a bit to make room on the floor to build this stuff, and all the books that will go on these shelves are stacked everywhere. I hope this solves some of the disorganization problems I have. When I moved the stuff down from my old studio I just set it up quickly and didn't consolidate or get things in the places where I use them most. Sure I have plenty of room but it's all taken up with crap I can most assuredly get rid of, weed through, organize, and make better use of. So, that's my long term spring cleaning project. And it starts in my 'window' today.

I think I will sell off fabric bundles after I get back in those one-rate USPS boxes. I think I will ask $20-$25 (including the shipping) for a box stuffed to the brim with whatever is on top of my piles. I'll take some pictures of the stacks and post them- SOMEBODY must still be using commercial fabrics, aren't they? So, is this a good or a bad idea?

While I'm waiting I have lots to do- I am getting my installation of the rusty chains polished up and fixed to 'present' in (ta dah!) my very own living room. Yes, it has been OK'd by the Power-That-Be to stick it on the wall so each one has to be perfect) or at least a bit more finished! Every time I finish another few units I send along an email showing the newest collection and finally at 12 I have the go-ahead to hang them. There goes my pristine metallic white painted wall. I am hoping that these look better than my hastily hung photos of rusty rebar that are currently being ignored. And it sure is a better solution than the $20,000 painting I fell in love with at the Fine Art Show this weekend. One perk of being a non-earning artist is that I DO have lots to hang on the walls. Trouble is that here I am now out of walls.

So, on go the pink glasses today, and off I go to knit and help a few people who are trying to learn! It's supposed to rain like hell this afternoon so I'm happy to be inside and dry.

UPDATE: I sat and fiddled waiting for the Ikea delivery and it showed up as expected, as expected with my optimistic self I mean. It came at 3 PM and I immediately opened the smallest box of seven and got to work 'assembling'. Another surprise, all the screws were in the baggie, all the pieces were drilled in good alignment- things have tightened up since my first assembled furniture! Here is the screw baggie halfway used up-
And here are the pieces of wood-like stuff, all cut in different ways but just thr right number of the necessary pieces to start with the Phillips screwdriver and a mallet and have at it.

And this is what emerged in two short hours! It's nice and tight and no screws are left over except where I felt it unnecessary to use four for each wheel. Because I am lazy.

The unfortunate part was I measured my space wrong and had to whack out a post that holds up my desk in order for the drawers to slide in. I'll screw that back together some other time but for now I love my new drawers! Can't wait to fill 'em up tomorrow, then build the second one. Bet I can do that one in just an hour and a half. Truthfully I am dreading the shelves because I can't even lift the boxes to shove them over. This is not going to be pretty.

I came home and told TY proudly that I had built the drawer unit this afternoon and he thinks I am dumb for not buying already built furniture. (Tool boxes make him very anxious.)

I actually GAVE away about a dozen of the small fixed rate USPS boxes stuffed with all sorts of scraps that I sorted into the "WILL NEVER USE IT AGAIN" bin, hand dyes and commercial alike. I asked folks for the postage via paypal.

If you are charging, you'll need to show some pictures and offer some choices like colorways maybe..here's a box of black & whites or pink & greens..either way, it was pesky and more time consuming than I wanted.

Devote a whole day to prepackaging the boxes and it might not be such an aggravating proposition.

Those drawer units are perfect studio furniture, but they do take forever to put together . . . I use mine as a mini flatfile and it works wonderfully well for storing paper, sketchbooks etc.
