News From Boston

So here's my update! I am feeling somewhat better- the cold is now a deep cough but I found some old misc. medicine in the buried bin of half used stuff back in the linen cupboard and it allows me to breathe at night so at least now I am getting air!

I ventured outside yesterday before the big snow was due but only made it two blocks before giving up with the realization that if I fell it could be days before someone would find me in one of the snowdrifts, even in my Michelin tire-guy orange parka and huge *vintage* LLBean boots. Haven't worn these suckers for 15 years.

I was walking on what I remembered to be a sidewalk route but picking my way down a central trench in about 6" of new snow so all the ruts and ridges were covered. And curbs. <
After barely catching myself, walking like a tightrope acrobat with arms outstretched, I envisioned staying at the hospital for a month with a broken hip. (Is that enough visual images?) Anyway, I turned back only to get clobbered by somebody shoveling snow off the roof of our building. I was happy happy to be back in the lobby and for once the elevator worked to get me back up to the condo where I will remain warm and dry for the duration.

I got home and dried off and hit the computer for some entertainment and to check my flight status (like things change from 'cancelled'!) Thing hadn't, but I found this new Google application where they are using their drive-by technology to go through world famous museums to chart artwork. They have only started this project but it looks amazing so far. I've checked a few of the pieces I have seen in real life and I can get closer using the imaging! Granted, it isn't the same experience, but what an upgrade from using Jansens as a way of seeing things! It's called the Google Art Project and I'll be watching! (I've linked to their faq page which will cut down on your own time figuring it out. You're welcome.)

I then spent the rest of the afternoon on the phone trying to make contact with JetBlue. It only took me two hours, that last hour was tough though because I had to have the charger plugged in and it meant my head had to be 2' from the outlet. It got uncomfortable... Finally I got reassigned to a flight out of Boston on SUNDAY. Yeah, five days more. The bad thing is that I am almost out of yarn, I am completely out of my diabetic meds as of tomorrow, and the food that remains in the cupboard isn't the kind of stuff I can really make things from. 3 cans of coconut milk, salsa, and a very old can of salmon I would like to avoid but am saving for dire emergency. Oh, I have lots and lots of spaghetti, a ton of rice in different forms, chick peas, black beans and lentils, bulghur, you name it- all carbs that I can't eat. Same in the freezer- I have stashed many rolls, leftover breads, and pita (most with freezer burn). Today my goal is to clean the freezer out- why do I need three packages of chopped spinach? I hate cooked spinach... must have bought it as a time saver for some recipe, who knows when.

Now, the good news is I've had time to play around with my 'On Demand' and found two series I am plowing through whenever I sit down- One is the Onion News, the other is 'Portlandia'. OMG, I love this series, it's a collection of sketches all dealing with some of the strangeness of living in Portland. (Oregon, of course- the people in Portland Maine aren't nearly so odd!) If you're bored, try it out for a laugh. Hey, it's keeping me from internet shopping at the very least, though some boot replacements may be in order.
