Life isn't about finding yourself. Life's about creating yourself. George Bernard Shaw
HENRY MILLER RULES 5. When you can't create you can work. And that's exactly what has been going on around here since my sewing machine went AWOL. I've been working like a puppy on both the knitting and the applique piece. I didn't go to the studio all weekend because I don't like being there by myself when nobody else is in the whole complex and there was a stabbing in the apartments next door a week ago with the perp running his escape right behind my building. Anyway, I am WORKING, that's what's important. I've spent every day almost all day doing one or the other of the projects at hand. And last night, (Season 2, Episodes 3-7 of Downton Abbey) I smack ran out of yarn on the knitting. I have to pick TY up at the airport this morning so will stop in the knitting store down there before hand to see if they have anything close I can finish up with. I've already been piecing in two colors in some of the green blocks to stretch things, but have two more blocks to go and the main color is gone. Then I have 8 big blocks where I am also piecing in similar colors to stretch that out- I hope something is close enough to grab. I've been using all old yards that I was sure would be enough. Ha.
I've also discovered that 10 years ago when I started the appliqué, I had it all planned out and drawn roughly on heavy paper. What I hadn't gotten to is refining the drawing to be something that cold actually be appliquéd. So I am doing this inches at a time as I go. This is not easy, as the appliqué is mostly linear- sort of looks like a woodblock- and my fat fingers and teensy needle just don't work that well anymore on bitty stuff. Slowed me right down.
BUT, I am working! Sorry that every blog post is the same lately. Today and tomorrow I hope to get back in the studio, murderers be damned, and work on the newest book. Then hopefully this week I'll hear about my machine and get back in business to whatever today's normal might turn out to be.
Pizza Toilet. Want one? (Thank me for not showing the gif of this, it as dizzying!)
Now I want you to know I am thrilled at the recent Supremes decision, couldn't be happier except if all states change their legislation but I got a little upset when this picture appeared on one of the blogs celebrating the decision:
San Francisco Courthouse: These people are all waiting ro get married (or maybe this is after, I don't know) but the thing that distressed me is that this was their wedding day and so many of them arrived in work clothes or costumes. A wedding, no matter what the circumstances is a sober and serious commitment and deserves a serious attitude. Sure they are happy, but really, couldn't they at least don a nice dress or clean shirt? They were wearing fookin Birkenstocks and thongs. One lady was in a tutu , and a guy in shorts and tee shirt. C'mon folks! It's your wedding day, it should be a joyous emotional day, not an occasion for baboon behavior. This could even be understood if the crowd was much younger, but these people are not kids- they should know better than to show up at the courthouse looking like they are going to the beach, let alone to get married. And no, I am NOT advocating tuxedos or big white wedding dresses, just 'appropriate attire'. OK, so I am a fuddy duddy. Sue me.
So, here it is, Wednesday. I had a dentist appointment today at 10 so left the house in plenty of time, got caught in a downpour but still made it in time---only to be told that my appointment is next week, same day and same time. Huff huff. Seems like they also had just gotten a cancellation so they took me anyway. I tell ya, my brain is the consistency of spun sugar these days, not that I get to eat any, drat the luck.
After the dentist almost-appointment I set out looking for yarn to finish up the project- I have two purple yarns I am mixing up together and any new yarn I introduce can be anywhere between the two I have. I went to Jo-Anns, I went to the craft shop next door, then I went to Michaels where I befriended a friendly Asian woman who knits for the VA and we both hunted down a purple but the yarn is way to thick- I was frustrated and bought it anyway, and encouraged her to go ahead with the variegated beige-to-brown she was handling. We boded over cheap yarn... Now I have to divide the purple yarn into two strands from four to make it work. I'll still be looking for something more appropriate. And with TY here my time seems to be taken up doing all sorts of dull things. At least I have been dined and wined appropriately.
The dogs cost me $800.00 at the vets the other day, I couldn't believe it. Then yesterday the vet called to announce Pepper has hookworms again (he had them when we adopted him from the shelter, we took care of it, supposedly, as well as treating Molly since it's so contagious. And so today we start a new round of the meds for that. AND Molly has 'high cholesterol' fer-kryin-out-loud, and needs to be on a special low fat diet now. At great expense. Who ever heard of a dog who doesn't get table food as having high cholesterol? I don't get it. She eats kibble and a bit of dog food to wet up. The only other thing she gets is a half of a boiled egg in the mornings and rawhide chews. Anyway, they both get blood tests in a couple of weeks and we'll see what happens.
SOme days it just doesn't pay to figure things out.

I told my son if he didn't get rid of the car I'd plant flowers in it.
Guess someone else had the same idea and planted a tree!
First off, I'm enjoying the Miller "rules" - even if the first reaction is a big hmmmmm they're pretty spot on.
second - I laughed and laughed about the reservation time - you were not only exceedingly early but you used your superpowers of prescience (?) to know IN ADVANCE that they had had a cancellation and could indeed get you in.
finally: That phoenix at massmoca is on my to-see list this summer. I like the concept of the art. I like the concept of MassMOCA but every time I've been there I'm like - huge old mill with things that wouldn't fit anywhere else... ok. got it.
