igloo myatism romp

  • This is the night that either makes me or fordoes me quite.   William Shakespeare

Hell of a weekend.  As my daughter would say, 'it's a first world problem',  but we had some people over Saturday evening to see the house and have a drink and some pretty darn good Brie.  TY said it felt warm so he checked the thermostat after they left and sure enough it was 78.  He fiddled a bit but the AC wouldn't go on so he called The Guy who showed up at 8 the next (Sunday) morning.  He climbed the ladder to the AC equipment and brought down a big motor on his shoulder which had crapped out.  He had installed it only 2 years ago (the last one lasted 17 years!) but of course on Sunday mornings the supply houses aren't open.  So we are sitting here with all the fans going at 8AM and almost 80 degrees this early, waiting for The Guy to return.  Naturally the last two nights had no breezes and every damn lizard that crossed the courtyard aroused the sleeping dogs.  And you know the saying:
LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE
We were awakened about ten times by them doing their best scary growl at the open doors and windows.  The lizards were not intimidated. The tree frogs sang on.  We sweated and tossed and turned in the sticky heat.  We watched middle-of-the-night movies on alternate hours.  This week is supposed to break all records for this time of year, in the mid 90s every day.

So, The Guy better get here quick with a motor on his shoulder and a ladder in his hands.

You can travel farther carried on the accomplishments of those who came before you. And the view is so much better.

Hmmm, notice how I carried the shoulder thing along?

ANYhoo-  I am sleep deprived and cranky.  The embroidery gal who has been renting the house next door is interested in my tossed out threads so I'll take those over this morning, then I have to get to FedEx to get the tossed-out yarns out as promised to the first taker.  And I am looking forward to both because both are AC territory.  Then there will be the required cold showers I have to fit in since I go off the deep end with heat problems so easily.  Of course I COULD go swimming but doubt I even have a suit lying around it's been so long.  We'll see how it goes.  Damn pool just sits there making me feel guilty.

How 'bout some Florida related art stuff today?

Artist Annette Thas has created this giant Barbie wave installation for Sculpture by the Sea in Perth. The event takes place on Cotteslow Beach between 70 local, interstate and international artists. Thas says of her installation: ‘The Barbies are used to convey messages. That’s why I decided to use blonde Barbie dolls. The sculpture is about genetic modification and the tyranny of the ideal image of beauty’.

Hungarian designer and visual artist Miklós Kiss, has been smuggling swarms of 14-carat gold-plated bronze cockroaches into museums and museum shops across Europe and the US as part of a guerrilla art project titled "Goldenroach". The roach as a carrier of the message is not a random choice, and naturally the used material itself has multiple symbolic values. Kiss explains, "The young artist gets into the sanctuary of visual arts like a cockroach. The roach is one of the most disgusting insects, which is capable of getting inside anything, and also earned a doubled fame in public awareness by its imperishability."

SQUIRREL time, yahoo!
